Should They Stay or Should They Go?
An entrepreneur owns his own business. He hires an immigrant to work for him trusting that the papers and information provided are legitimate. Two months later, the owner is robbed and beaten by the new employee. During the ensuing investigation, it is discovered that the employee was in the country illegally. A second business owner hires an immigrant who becomes a trusted employee working for the business for many years. Which story is the real story? The truth is they could both be real. There can be both good and bad outcomes when it comes to illegal immigration. It all depends on the situation.
As referred to in Time Magazine, “According to a Pew Research Center study, there were 11.3 million unauthorized immigrants—about 3.5% of the U.S. population—in the U.S. in 2014. That’s down from 12.2 million, or 4% of the population, in 2007” (Edwards). These immigrants are people who have entered the U.S. without inspection and have no legal right to be in the country. Illegal immigration is a controversial issue that is viewed differently by supporters and opponents. Many people consider illegal immigrants to be assets. Many others consider illegal immigrants to be a huge problem.
