The first question is about my worldview. First of all, I think the meaning of life is to improve yourself and the world around you. By improving yourself, I do not mean simply getting better at a task, but continuously seeking and finding the truth. I believe that we should strive to connect with other people and to show them sympathy and empathy. In doing this, we both come to better understand the truths of this world, by seeing things from multiple different perspectives, but we also make other people’s lives better. Constant improvement makes us always strive for more and for better, both for ourselves and for our community. I believe that there is a God. I believe in some higher being that is pure love, peace, and truth. This being is the example toward which we are to strive. Although we will never reach the ideal levels of peace and love and truth that God holds and is, it is the goal. At the Teach-In, we not only learned about social justice issues but also advocated for criminal justice reform and immigration reform. As we studied these topics and examined the bills that were being decided on in Congress pertaining to these issues, I saw many of the bills were bipartisan. Although many times Republicans are shown as being racist, sexist, and not caring about reform, the DREAM Act of 2017 was introduced in the Senate by a Republican. Roy Blunt, the Republican senator from Missouri, co-sponsored one of the criminal justice reform bills for which we were advocating. Further, rape and sexual abuse allegations have been raised against not only Republicans but also Democrats, showing that they are not perfect angels in the same way that Republicans are not
