This is not the first time that I was invited to reflect on my life, and as it had been in the past, I would not hold back and be honest in my self-appraisal. In the last couple of years, my health has not been as great as it used to be. Thanks to the torn menisci on my knees. Indeed, there is much to be desired in my current health status. However, as had been observed, nurses make some of the worst patients. I ignore my body’s signals to go slow and take it easy. Many times I find myself scurrying around, not mindful of my aching knees, the need to use the bathroom, or take time for break. I am an antithesis of what I urged my patients to be. In a sense, I feel that I preach empty words to my patients and that my actions belie my words. Reflecting on my current health status, I realize that I have to stop being a type A person and let go the image of the nurse as a superhuman, but, rather, as a person who has basic needs just like everyone else.
