“The Adventure of the Speckled Band” Essay The story “The Adventure of the Speckled Band” written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a mysterious story about a detective named Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes was a wise and intelligent man. Dr.Watson, a loyal and trusted person assisted Sherlock Holmes in this mystery. Helen Stoner was a brave and smart girl. Her step-father, Dr. Grimsby Roylott, was a deviant and greedy man who nearly kept Helen captive. This story took place in the manor of Stoke Moran, England in early April, 1883. Helen went to Sherlock Holmes to be aided with her conflict. Helen feared for her life as she heard a whistle in the same bedroom as her sister met her fate. Dr. Grimsby Roylott, as mentioned, was a deviant and greedy man, and he caused countless troubles with the society. Dr. Roylott did not concern about how he acted towards the citizens of the society around him. This was a man versus society conflict since it had to do with the community. Dr. Roylott had a problem with Sherlock Holmes trying to assist his stepdaughter, and this was a man versus man quarrel. Two years ago, Julia, the departed sister of Helen, met her fate when she heard a whistle singing in the late night. Helen was anxious as she started with this conflict, but now she is petrified. This problem also had turned challenging, as this mystery has been difficult to resolve. Holmes has been a keen observer to Helen, as well as wise. Dr. Roylott was turning into a criminal and he was abusive towards the people near him. This story is unraveling quickly because both Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes encountered the suspicious actions. All of the clues and facts were coming together in a puzzle piece
