Once the war started, France had control over the Louisiana Territory and Canada.France and Britain began fighting in 1754, but the war did not officially start until 1756.The French and Natives of North America fought as allies against Britain at the start of the Seven Year War.By the time the war started, France had taken control of most of eastern Canada.Disagreements over ohio territory sparked the beginning of the war.English troops outnumbered the French when the war began. The Natives and the French joined forces because they were afraid that Britain was going to end up gaining control of their land.The French and the Naitives defeated the British many times in the beggining of the war.In 1756 But the course of the French and Indian War changed when William Pitt became the secretary of state in 1756..William Pitt gave more resources to the British in North America. This led to the capture of several French forts. He borrowed a lot of money to help pay for the cost of the war.The British won many of the battles between them and the French. As the war progressed, the Natives began to leave the French. This gave the British an advantage.The British won the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759. They settled down in Quebec.The next year the British got control of Montreal and the French and Indian War was basically done.On February 10th, 1763 the Treaty of Paris was signed. This officially ended the war, even though the physical fighting was over. The Treaty of Paris basically stated that all of the land in North America west of the Mississippi belonged to Britain.
