I am going to start with the first hand effects of alcohol abuse. Sometimes it can be fun to get so drunk that you can’t walk straight or even talk in a complete sentence but what you don’t realize is the effect it has on your brain all of the alcohol that you consume sends toxins to you brain which is that feeling of lightness and sometimes dizziness is your body’s way of telling you you’ve had enough if you get that feeling and you stop drinking it okay, but if you continue to push your body past that limit is when it starts to get dangerous and your body starts to shut down first your legs go and then your speech. …show more content…
Alcohol abuse is a serious and deadly thing so make sure you don’t overdo it. I recently learned that you can have a very good time without any alcohol consumption involved but if you are going to drink it’s okay to have a few tell you feel good but don’t do it to the point when you can’t see straight or make the proper judgment calls to make sure you and the people you are with make it back to the place you need to be safely and with proper accountability of you things. This brings me to my next topic keeping proper accountability of your gear, no matter what you do for a living or whether you’re military or civilian we all have things that are important to our jobs and our way of life. As a kid I was taught about keeping your things with you and making sure I had it with me that was the only way I got to have a phone as kid it was that and I had to get it myself, my dad was very keen on his kids growing up so that we didn’t need anyone in the future and to be quite honest I am glad that he
Many people have been misguided about whether or not alcoholism is “disease” that attacks a person’s good health. A key suggestion of those that believe alcoholism is a disease is that a disease is uncontrolled. This is not so. When people develop an addiction to alcohol they tend to push everything of importance out of their lives: family, friends, and sometimes even jobs. People with addiction to alcohol throw
The importance of accountability, are being on time and in the right uniform. The main reason we have formations and that we are trying to keep account of personnel to know where everybody is at, at all times. I have learned in the past years that I have been in that being on time is the most important thing that you need to do. For one the accountability of personnel is major, it plays a big role in the deployment and the readiness of soldiers. I would have to say that I was wrong for not showing up at my appointed place of duty I should have gotten up and made it to the swimming pool. But in all things that have been done I have seen that accountability is the most important asset here for
While consumption of alcohol is a socially acceptable practice in our society, issues arise when abuse occurs. Donatelle and Thompson (2011) define alcohol abuse as the "excessive consumption or a level of consumption that interferes with work, school, or social and family relationships" (256). As with other drug addictions, this abuse is disruptive to the alcohol abusers life as well as to those close to them. Moreover, alcohol abuse is accompanied by many devastating effects for all demographics. The harms associated with the misuse and abuse of alcohol includes: harm to oneself, negative effects on friendships and social life, and negative affects to physical

Some short-term effects of alcohol abuse are the reduction of tension, production of pleasurable affects, as well as slowed thinking and memory loss. Studies also show poor decision making to be a short-term effect of alcohol consumption. Some long-term effects are psychological deterioration as well as a physical deterioration. Just about every organ is adversely affected by the long-term consumption of alcohol. For example, a person who uses alcohol long term reduces the amount of food intake due to the calories consumed by alcohol that has little nutritional value. Over time this person can become malnourished. Long term use of alcohol can
Alcohol misuse is just the start to many issues a person can have when they continue with the unsafe alcohol consumption. When drinking over the recommended amount of alcohol, there are short term and long term risks that can occur. For example, some short term risks include, car accidents resulting in injury of
As previously noted, when an individual consumes an excessive amount of alcohol, it sits in the brain waiting to become metabolized. While doing so, normal brain functioning become suppressed, causing impairment in the cells that make up the brain. Most believe that alcoholism can be controlled. I agree with that statement to an extent. To personal belief, the misuse of substances is used as a negative coping strategy. The individual could have developed positive, less addicting, coping strategies when dealing with everyday stressors. On the other end of that argument, I strongly believe that the excessive use of alcohol could affect brain cells, which disables proper functioning of the organ itself. Due to the fact that an individual can control his or her alcohol consumption, society tends to blame the individual who is suffering. Individuals who are defined by society’s standards as an “alcoholic” are stereotyped as lazy, incompetent, and a
Throughout someone’s lifetime, they get lectured about the effects of alcohol and that alcohol is a taboo and that it should be consumed in very limited amounts. Parents tell one’s child that they should vow to never drink because it would destroy their bodies when they grow older. Kids are even put into programs like D.A.R.E and M.A.G.I.C when they are in elementary school, that teaches them why one should not drink alcohol and expresses how alcohol affects your health. The overuse of alcohol/alcohol abuse can affect one’s weight and the function of one’s organs throughout someone’s lifetime.
Society doesn’t often think about of the consequences of alcohol use. Alcohol can negatively affect a person’s life in many aspects such as losing their job, losing communication with their families, and harm their body. People usually hear more about the consequences of tobacco abuse, however, alcohol abuse is very harmful for the body because it can lead to many diseases. If a person doesn’t stop drinking on time it can be very dangerous. People should be conscious of the severe impact alcohol can cause to their health, family and work.
The effects of alcohol on the human body are well documented. Researchers have over time demonstrated that excessive consumption of alcohol, what is herein referred to as alcohol abuse, does adversely affect the human body. In this text, I define the term alcohol abuse and examine the effects excessive consumption of alcohol has on the human body.
Many times, people young and old, will abuse the use of alcohol. It is known that when a person begins drinking alcohol at an early age, they will later develop health issues, and possibly face the risk of becoming an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a chronic disease, where a person has problems controlling the amount they are drinking. An alcoholic does not have to be someone who drinks too much, they may feel a strong urge to drink, they may become tolerant of the amount they are drinking, sometimes drinking it just like water. They also can become physical with someone and then not remember the conversation or what they did to the person the next day. Alcoholism is a serious matter, many do not fully understand what it can do to lives, and may believe that it is not an issue. This essay will explore the risk factors of alcoholism, effects of the prolonged use of alcohol, and how an alcoholic can get help.
Alcohol is considered an enjoyable and occasional component of social settings; however, its depressant nature and addictive properties are frequently overlooked. Over the years, it has become more popular in society to excessively drink. Heavy and binge drinking has been seen to increase in most counties, but the magnitude of change varied considerably (Dwyer-Lindgren, Mokdad, & Flaxman, 2016). Binge drinking is when one drinks an excessive amount of alcohol during a short period of time. This type of drinking may lead to serious internal long term and short term biological effects such as nerve damage, unconsciousness, and anemia (SHORT-TERM EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL, 2016). Drinking alcohol has become a problem of consider-able magnitude today, and has impacted many people who choose to take advantage of it. Alcoholism has been an understated problem in society today. We see alcohol as a normal drink at the table or during a gathering. Alcoholism is a general craving for alcohol and there is no tolerance in having it. Alcoholics are mostly in denial when accusing them of what they are doing and that is the psychological part of alcohol addiction.
Research has proven alcohol can play an immense role in altering human abilities. Consumption of alcohol can result in deficiency in motor skills such as walking. Not to mention slurred speech, slowed reaction times, blurred vision, and impaired memory. Some of these symptoms quickly diminish when drinking stops. Alternatively, a person who drinks heavily over a long period of time may have brain insufficiencies that carry on well after he or she reaches sobriety. Heavy drinking may have extensive effects on the brain, long-lasting and devastating conditions that require lifetime care; even modest drinking leads to short–term impairment, as shown by extensive research on the impact drinking has on driving.
Alcohol, or more accurately identified as ethanol, is the type of alcohol in alcoholic beverages. It can be a very controlling and addictive drug. Alcohol can be produced both synthetically and naturally through the process of fermentation of fruits, vegetables, and grains. Although alcohol can be considered a social icebreaker and may seem to produce an energy rush, this initial reaction hides alcohol’s true effects as a depressant that slows the nervous system. Alcohol can affect a person’s motor skills by slowing the reaction time, impairing vision, diminishing clear thinking and good judgment. Addictive consumption can have both adverse social and economic effects on the individual drinker, the drinker’s immediate environment and society as a whole. Due to alcohol consumption on the material welfare of the society as a whole, binge drinking leads to a negative impact of social and economic costs, impacting directly- the value of goods and services delivered to address the harmful effects of alcohol, and indirectly- the value of personal productive services that are not delivered as a consequence of drinking. Alcohol is the foremost drug of abuse in the United States today, following the effects of alcohol abuse and alcoholism. It has a negative impact on society as a whole in terms of resources required for criminal justice, health care costs and other social institutions, being damaging to our nation 's economy both directly and indirectly just as the health
