To my FB friends, especially those planning to vote for a third-party candidate in November and those planning not to vote at all:
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton may be the most polarizing and least popular nominees in history, but we must not blind ourselves to reality — one of them is virtually certain to become the next President of the United States. The one who receives 270 electoral votes, or more, will assume responsibility, upon inauguration, for exercising one of the most consequential powers delegated to the chief executive: the power to nominate Supreme Court Justices.
I would argue that no decision by a President leaves a more lasting impact on future generations than the exercise of that power. Presidents come and go — some

Imagine, for a moment, just how differently the Supreme Court might have ruled on a variety of critical and contentious issues if a President Gore or President Kerry had filled the vacancies that President Bush filled by appointing John Roberts and Samuel Alito . . . or how differently the Supreme Court might have ruled these past eight years if a President McCain had filled the vacancies that President Obama filled by appointing Sonia Sotomayer and Elena Kagan.
Before refusing to vote for the “lesser of two evils,” I urge you to consider the long-term ramifications of your decision. This election is not just about the next four years (we can always choose a different direction in 2020)-- it is about the next quarter century, or more. The wrong choice this year may have unintended consequences for generations to come.
If you agree, please help me spread the word between now and November 8th by SHARING this post with your friends and by encouraging them to SHARE it with theirs, and so on and so
In recent discussion of Democrats and Republican parties, a controversial issue has been whether or not the U.S. should expand their options from more than a two party system. On the one hand, some argue that there should be more choices other than between the two Democrat Party and Republican Party. From this perspective, voters have more of a variety when they vote. On the other hand, some argue that the U.S. should remain as a two party system. In the words of Gary Johnson, one of this view’s main proponents, “The Republicans and Democrats have spent decades trading power back and forth between themselves, and in doing so, have managed to install a two-party duopoly that completely controls America’s political process.” According to this view, Democrats and Republicans are dictating other parties opportunities to get elected. In sum, then, the issue is whether there should be other options rather than a choice between the Democrat and the Republican Party. I agree with Gary Johnson’s view that the Democrat and Republican Parties are controlling America’s
“It is a natural evolution of our mass consciousness to begin to see third parties as a viable option; it is reflected in the corrupt and broken two-party system.” Michelle Augello-Page, an author and writer, uses this quote to speak to the frustration Americans feel about the two-party political system. Since the 1850’s, the Democrats and Republicans have received the majority of the popular vote, while third party candidates struggle election after election (Schechter). The two major party candidates don’t always speak to the issues many Americans want to be addressed. Therefore, Americans must consider voting for third party candidates to ensure democracy works for everyone.
Political parties are critical structures in the modern society and universal phenomena in most democracies. In fact, they form major objects of intensive study as they are usually the centre of political and social power. They engage in most activities that are of significant consequence in the lives of citizens and link the common populace to the government. Therefore, it is important to understand political parties fully from every perspective of political systems so obtain their real importance in democracies. A political party is basically a group of citizens who converge as voters, activists, electoral candidates and office holders with a common party label and seek to elect party members into public offices. While modern political
The United States is established by democracy and the will of the general population, yet in the 2000 and 2016 elections, the majority of citizens in the United States voted in favor of the losing candidate. These outcomes are on the grounds that the decision of the President in the United States hangs solely on the Electoral College. The Electoral College is obsolete and should be abrogated for different reasons. The original purposes behind embracing the Electoral College were tailored to the time of its creation and never again apply in a modern democracy. Additionally, the Electoral College prompts political imbalance as the instances of federalism, unexpected elections, and the winner-take-all broad ticket framework demonstrates. One must
Power, authority and governance can have a major impact on a government and the citizens living under that government. Just like these concepts play a major role in the development of a nation, so does a President. Once the United States Constitution was ratified, the American experiment began. The first Presidents had to go through many adversities and had to overcome them. There were several events that increased American moral which contributed to the growth of the U.S and it was up to the early Presidents to act in the best interest of the new nation. Throughout the history of the United States, the presidents had made choices that had both a negative and positive outcome. There are arguments and debates about how the effect of a President's
As most American’s know as well as Gohmert, that it is not just the presidency as stake this election. With one seat already waiting to be filled on the Supreme Court, and others possibly being vacated shortly, the balance of the highest court in America, the one the governs us all, hangs in the balance as well. The people picked to fill these seats will have a tremendous affect on the trajectory of our future as a country.
“The Democratic Party at its worst is better for the country than the Republican Party at its best.” This was a statement made by Lyndon B. Johnson in 1955. Lyndon B. Johnson of course was a Democrat. Is this quote true today? That is a question that can only be answered after a careful analysis of the philosophy of the Republican and Democratic leaders that help to run this nation.
Gary Earl Johnson is the Libertarian Party nominee to be president. Gary was born on January 1, 1953 in Minot, North Dakota. Gary is the son of Lorraine B. and Earl W. Johnson. In 1971 Johnson graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gary attended the University of New Mexico from 1971 to 1975 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. Gary met his future wife, Denise “Dee” Simms while he was in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He made his own business in 1976 called Big J Enterprises that dealt with door-to-door handyman jobs. His business was weak until he made a large contract from Intel’s expansion in Rio Rancho. Gary eventually grew the business
There have been many presidents from the past to the future that have been elected to serve our country. Each person has come into office with the idea that they will be able to change the world. With their job comes a lot of responsibilities and power. It is up to them to make the right choices that will positively impact the United States economy as well as the people who inhabit it. Citizens have voted and allowed them to make decisions for our country whether they wanted to or not. Every president is different and is known for the impacts that they made on society, whether it was good or bad.
A notorious voting option on Nevada ballots is “none of these candidates”, but is this option valuable to electing a new politician? Maybe it is, maybe it is not. However, it could be a way for voters to show disapproval for both potential candidates. As many know, the 2016 presidential candidates were both hated to rather high degree. Many voters on both ends of the political spectrum voiced their dissent for the candidate that opposed who they favored, but there were also many voters who realized that both candidates were not worth voting for. Therefore, an option like “none of these candidates” would be the most appealing option and a gift from the political gods. On the other hand, some may perceive it as an irrelevant choice on the ballot that could be replaced with another candidate or not even appear on the ballot at all. Although expressing disapproval for potential candidates is readily provided by Nevada elections, the unique option of “none of these candidates” may be a rather useless choice in a tight election and removal or reform of this choice should be considered for the sake of future elections.
All across the world there are major political parties fighting in each country in order to take control of their government. The United States of America is not an exception, as the Democratic and Republican parties compete against each other in every election in order to gain control of the US Government. These two political parties are the most popular and powerful in the US, there are very popular that other political parties have no chance on competing against these two in an election race. In order to win elections the parties need the vote of the people, the parties need for every gender to vote for them in order to have a chance in winning the election. Both parties need the vote of the men and woman, but these genders tend to vote
The Supreme Court is the final judge of cases and interprets the constitution but it remains limited in power due to checks by the other two branches of government. The Supreme Court has eight Associate Justices and one Chief Justice. Associate Justices, as well as the Chief Justice, hear cases, fewer than 100, and rule decisions on them. The Chief Justice is the presiding judge in the Supreme Court. Antonin Scalia was a conservative meaning he had traditional values and disliked change. President- elect, Donald Trump, is a republican and is likely to replace Antonin Scalia with someone who has likeminded political views to avoid gridlock when he becomes president. Someone who is a president-elect means that they have been elected as president but have not taken office yet. Gridlock occurs in government when people are unable to function due to conflicting views and opinions on political issues. It is important to consider many factors when nominating an individual to serve on the Supreme Court, including their age, justices serve for life. Donald Trump has released a list containing potential individuals to replace Scalia’s empty Associate Justice seat, however, Ted Cruz is not on that list. Trump’s list is made up of many federal judges and state supreme court justices. When Donald Trump becomes president and is able to nominate an individual, the nomination must be confirmed by the Senate,
The Republican Party has long relied on the support of older, white, conservatives. Regrettably, they are a shrinking portion of the voting population. The problem that they face is a shrinking voter base, mainly due to age. As their electorate shrinks, it is imperative for the party to appeal to the more liberal younger generations for support. The Republican Party needs to look forward to true reform. Above all, the party needs to abandon much of their social conservatism to appeal to millennials ' interests to stay relevant on the national political scene.
America is vastly known as a country boundlessly pursuing equality in all facets of life. In this seemingly endless quest for equal opportunity, there has been one lurking negation; our election system. The addition to equal representation in public funding and on the ballot will create variability and allow Americans to entrust their vote in a political format that more closely aligns with democratic philosophy. Therefore, a shift away from a bipartisan, a two party, dominated election system would not only be a healthy change for American electoral satisfaction, but for the future of third party politics. Unfortunately affluence and inherent wealth have played a large role in this divide between a true democratic election and our present biased, broken, and benyne system.
There have been many different political parties since the beginning of the American political system. A political party is made up of a group of people that share common goals and ideals, and these people work together to help elect people to offices that share these goals to represent them. Political parties work to try to control the government and their ultimate goal is to win as many elections and to gain as many offices as possible.
