The Twilight Samurai Review The Twilight Samurai is a Japanese film that was filmed not too many years ago in 2002. It is a historical drama film that is based on the mid-19th century in Japan. This film mostly focuses on the life of the poor, especially the life of Seibei Iguchi. Seibei Iguchi is said to be a low-ranking samurai, meaning that he is fairly poor. He is also known as a bureaucrat. Although he is poor, he is not too poor because, he actually works. He always worked so that he could make the best life that he possibly could for his two daughters Kayano and Ito and also for his mother who seems to have dementia. Even though they were all low-ranking samurai bureaucrats, they felt as though Seibei Iguchi did not fit in with them. That is how Seibei Iguchi ended up with the nickname Tasogare, meaning Twilight. They felt as though he did not fit in with them because his clothing began to look rather shabby and he has stopped bathing as often as he should have. The only reason he failed to take regular bathes and wear decent clothing is because he simply could not afford it any more, due to the fact that he was spending all of his hard earned money of his mother’s dementia medication and the money for his monthly bath fees went to his two daughters as well as his mother. This major draft in his finances was causing him to look rather homeless and smell not so fresh. Although Seibei Iguchi was constantly being picked on and frowned upon, after they heard about his skills with sword fighting that started gaining respect for him and a little bit of fear. The reason Seibei Iguchi got into a fight is because he was fighting a rogue samurai for his clan. Seibei Iguchi defeated the rogue samurai, afterwards he was highly praised.
