World War I had three main causes. The first cause was nationalism. Nationalism would make countries try to out do one another causing tension. The second cause was imperialism, this was started by countries trying to expand the culture. The final cause the assassination of archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria- Hungary. When Ferdinand died Austria- Hungary started a war against Serbia, which involved many other countries they were in alliance with resulting in World War I. These causes resulted in to million people dying between 1914-1918. Even though they have the same name, World War I and World War II are very different especially in the causes. On June 28, 1914 a group of seven Serbian men went to the streets to kill the archduke.They wanted him dead because Serbia wanted to become an independent nation, but with Franz Ferdinand as emperor they couldn't be separated from Austria-Hungary. However, only one of the Serbian men actually took action and threw a grenade, that attempt failed and the archduke got away. But later that day fate was on the Siberians side because while standing outside a deli the archduke passed one of the assassinators. The gears on the archdukes car then stuck giving the Siberian assassinator the perfect shot. He fired two shots killing the archduke and his pregnant wife. During the questioning of one of the Serbian men, the attempted assassin told everything including Serbia giving them weapons to complete the murder. This murder led Austria- Hungary, who was allied with Germany and Italy, starting a war with Serbia, who was allied with Russia, Britain, and France. Since mainly all of Europe was at war it was considered the first World War.
