World War I was the result of leaders' aggression towards other countries which was supported by the rising nationalism of the European nations. Economic and imperial competition and fear of war prompted military alliances and an arms race, which further escalated the tension contributing to the outbreak of war. One cause of the World War was militarism, which is a policy in which military preparedness is of primary significance to a situation. Another cause of the World War was nationalism. Nationalism is the pride and devotion form one towards his/her country. It played a great part in the causes of World War 1 because citizens wanted to stand up for their country, and fight for them. Troops, armour, and equipment arrivals were timed to the minute. Naval barrage landed first on the beach at 6:30 a.m., immediately followed by thirty-two light assault tanks known as DD tanks to further subdue fortified positions and provide cover for the oncoming troops (These were held on large freight boats known as LCTs). In the wake of this attack came the American 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry in twenty Higgens boats, another type of transport designed to hold a thirty-man team. They were followed by the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry, bringing engineers and naval demolition teams in thirty-two more Higgens boats.6 Wave after wave of troops and equipment, containing bulldozers, and the light and mobile Sherman Tank (see appendix B) continued to arrive.
“A missing German U-boat is lost no longer”(Washington Post). This recent headline appeared in the Washington Post on 19 September 2017. A once lost German U-boat was found off the coast of Belgium at the bottom of the North Sea. This U-boat contained the bodies of the twenty three commanding men of the submarine. Authorities say the submarine was hit and sunk by a naval mine on the upper deck. Between 1914 and 1918, many of the world’s leading countries were neck to neck in a bloody and gruesome battle known as the Great War or World War I. At the start of the war, the United States practiced its policy of isolationism, a policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other countries. However, the United States officially entered the war in April 1917. Although the United States only fought two battles, at St. Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne, the fighting took a heavy toll on American lives and the public opinion of war. In an attempt to restore public opinion, President Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to help the United States slip back into isolationism. In response to the overwhelming desire of Americans to keep their distance from foreign conflicts, the United States remained diplomatically and militarily isolated due to public sentiment, internal politics and lack of military preparedness, and economic repercussions of the Great Depression.
World War I was a stalemate right from the outbreak of the war as a result of trench warfare. With the introduction of this system, a piece of land stretching from the Belgian coast, through France, and ending in Switzerland, became the venue for majority of the conflict. For almost three years, this line shifted by no more than a few hundred yards. All of this changed when the United States joined the war and prompted Germany to make an all-out drive on the Allies so as to end the war before the American Army reached full strength on the battlefield. The American Expeditionary Force allowed the Allies to take the offensive, thereby ending the static state of war that had settled on the Western Front as a result of trench warfare.

WORLD WAR ONE There has always been wars, and there will always be wars. Most wars leave a huge impact on the history of that nation, especialy if it involves more than one. In 1914, long-standing rivalries among European nations exploded into war. World War one, as it is now called, cost millions of lives. Such a war, has left a deep intentaion on the American history.
Chaos, violence, and pain. This was the focal point of World War 1. This was a period filled with lies, deceit, and even confusion. But you have to wonder what path led the society of this time to such destruction. The war was centralized mainly in Europe. Especially in Austria, where in 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated; bringing tensions between Austria-Hungary and Serbia to an all time high. Soon, Austria declared war. This set off a chain of alliances all around the world. However, the assassination of Franz Ferdinand wasn't a direct cause of World War One. Rather, the three main causes of World War One was the strong sense of nationalism between countries, imperialism, and the alliances formed by each country.
Nothing was a bigger disaster than what happened in World War I. This was such a bad war because everyone in the world has allies, and the allies are in oath to help there ally when things get rough or that country is going to war. What I am here to inform you about is how one of the major countries and why one of the biggest powers in the world played a big part in World War I. This country is no other than France, a country who has a lot of say in Europe, and has many allies through out the world.

While we are always reminded of the negative effects of war, it is not everyday that we learn to understand the deeper factors of war that can turn a small conflict into an international outbreak. World War I was said to have been sparked by the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand but there are various deeper reasons that contributed to the commencement of the Great War. These factors include militarism, imperialism and the alliance systems.
