Youtube’s Notification Glitch and their Notification Bell Feature

One of the major more recent changes to Youtube was the addition of the notification bell next to the subscribe button on Youtube. This feature allows the subscriber to receive notifications of new videos and updates made to whatever channel the viewer subscribes to. To activate this feature you first subscribe to the channel and then press the button with the bell icon on it to start to receive notifications from the channel8.

The article continues by explaining that this is because “YouTube’s current setup does not favor elevating subscriptions, but seems to instead elevate promoted videos, videos rising in popularity (but without any link to the user – e.g. not from known, subscribed channels), and advertisement videos” 5.

This glitch has cause several content creators, especially small creators, the disappearance of subscribers with a number of Youtubers saying that it seems like they lose subscribers with every video they upload. A lot of Youtubers, big and small, have complained this about this as well as the notification system Youtube has been using for years. Youtuber Jim Sterling commented on the notification glitch saying that “YouTube’s notification system for subscribers can be utterly awful, and as with many problems YouTube has, fixing it isn’t a priority whatsoever”. Other Youtubers like JackSepticEye, a gaming Youtuber, mentions that Youtube makes changes to their site and by not letting their content creators become aware of these changes is a “shitty thing to do”. While on the other hand, Youtube still says that there’s no glitch at all.
