Lessons From Everyday Use, Daffodils, and The Glass Menagerie
Literature plays a major role in civilization. Even societies without a written language have literature. Stories, poems and songs are pasted down orally from one generation to another. This term we have study three forms of literature; short stories, poems, and drama. The study of these three forms has affected me in different ways and I have taken different lessons out of each form. The three literary work witch had the greatest impact on me are "Everyday Use" written by Alice Walker, "Daffodils" written by William Wordsworth, and "The Glass Menagerie" written by Tennessee Williams.

William Wordsworth's poem "Daffodils" is about having one moment in time where true happiness is found and being able to go back to that moment and recreate the joy. Wordsworth starts the
Think about life hundreds of years ago, think about their literature, and what their writings were based off. Society has a significant impact on art, music, and literature. Over the years American literature has evolved. This evolution is a reflection of history. Time periods reflect changes in society, politics, and religion. Each time period has a distinct characteristic. The evolution of literature is shown by
There were authors who will write about literature and their work would be looked as if it had an influence on science. Derrida and Kuhn’s were a big influence on English professor because they open one mind that literature does not have essence and that literary criticism is not science. The author also believes that people outside the profession are not interested in literature and
Literatures work has always played an important role in our society throughout the history. Each works serves with different purposes and provide the readers with great benefits. It does not only give the audience enjoyments from the works, but it is also another way to teach the others in many different ways. Most work from the Native Americans that we learned from the lecture are to teach and persuade other people of strong values of life, such as “Iktomi and the Dancing Duck” and “Origin of the Sun Shower.” Literature is one of the most important ways to preserve wide range of knowledge and to pass down to each generation, which can also help the audience understand different things from the past. There are many literature works that were
As the poem goes on, the second emotion from the speaker occurs in the last stanza: the state of “solitude.” “For oft, when on my couch I lie, in vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon that inward eye, which is the bliss of solitude,” the first emotion of isolation and loneliness seems to reappear here. But his mood is no longer just “vacant” as a “lonely cloud,” but “pensive.” His mind is now thoughtful and meditative because the existence of the daffodils. If he is “vacant,” he cannot remember anything; then his memory would be involuntary. Unlike the first emotion that took the speaker out of his loneliness, the second emotion repeats and recurs to the speaker, as William Wordsworth uses the word “oft”—often. The speaker is looking forward to his time of being alone, because the daffodils will be there to dance for him, to keep him company; as the poet writes, “which is the bliss of solitude; and then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils.”
Prior to high school, my experience of literature was limited to comics and short stories. I had never read a play or even come across the concept of literary devices. It was only recently that I encountered several ideas on the nature of literature. Specifically, the essay “The Ideal English Major” by Mark Edmundson brings up the intriguing idea that “some of us speak, others are spoken [by language].” It seemed obvious at first, but I now begin to understand how this could make the difference between a good book and a timeless classic, between an amazing author and a legend. There are different elements that separate those who speak from those who are spoken and the effect works that speak to us is much different. I came to the conclusion that what makes the difference between speaking and being spoken is one’s ability to use language creatively. Those who speak literature produce art. Their works are able to entertain educate and inspire us.
In the past twenty-five centuries, the essence of music and art were used as a form of literature. Writers that have not been writing in the past twenty-five centuries tended to music and arts as a way to implement this theme. Arts such as live performances, oracles and paintings or drawings were used to portray a story. These helped people see things through own perspective.
During this course, the ideas that were discussed were ideas that were influenced by either a historical, social political or economic conditions. Some other ideas that were discussed were influenced by many other beliefs, changes, or movements. Three examples that were influenced by literature or have an effect on “The Lottery”, “The Cask of Amontillado”, “Mexican Almuerzo in New England”. Many different stories and poems were influenced by many different aspects of the literature world. In literature to have a story or poem be good, the writer must have wanted to have their work influenced by or have their work affect people.
There are different types and forms of literature. They are novel, drama, poetry, biography, non-fictional prose, essay, epic and short story. All these types of literature have some elements. To complete a piece of literature, a writer, dramatist or a novelist must use certain elements like plot, character, theme, etc. to capture the interest of their readers. When reading literature, there are themes which are interpreted within the literary piece. Themes reflect innocence, experience, life, death, reality, fate, madness, sanity, love, society, individual, etc. Such themes present a point of a lesson learned or the particular meaning the
Literature is something that varies from person to person. Literature allows people to use their creative imagination in different forms such as poetry, journalism, fiction, etc. Although I am not a fan of literature, I understand the importance of depicting things such as poetry. People are able to express themselves with words in poetry and each stanza has a different meaning. The best part about poetry is that everybody will view the same poem in different aspects. Somebody will catch onto something and feel that the poem is trying to speak to them in different ways than you might have thought. The poem I decided to do is “Where the Sidewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein. He was a children’s poet, singer-songwriter, cartoonist, and screenwriter.
My choice for consideration of this essay are Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Purloined Letter” and, Katherine Mansfield’s “The Garden Party”. In reading these works I enjoyed the beauty with witch the words flowed, because if often seemed like the writer was using poetry to present their story. The similes and metaphors brought the text to life, and I was able to picture myself alongside one of the characters. Even the use of onomatopoeias made my sense of sound participate in the reading. The diction with which the author chose to have his/her characters speak help me to establish a time period and setting in my mind. All of this helped to create a complete picture of what the writers were trying to convey within their works; however, it was the word choices that made me feel as though literature is not relevant to contemporary society.
Literature is a special kind of writing where is a place that ideology can be exposed and represented because in literary work people can share the knowledge. Literature can be seen as the vehicle to send the ideology where the authors use literary work to share their ideology. It means that literary works are not free from subjectivity of the author, since the authors use their point of view toward issue that present in society.
There are different forms of literature which can include essays, poems, novels, reports and more. The one thing all forms of literature have in common is that they all have meaning, purpose and form, but how it is expressed is all different, the question is how. Most of the times authors have a reason to convey such messages, and how the messages are delivered is up to the author as well. The author uses the form, it’s aesthetics to send the readers an image; what kind of literature it is. The authors also send the readers a blatant message, the message is sent through the text of the literature. Through the text on the literature the author portrays purpose, and with the form of the
Literature is a form of communication that demonstrates ideas. Literature can be anything that is written such as, poetry, stories, letters…etc. Communities around the world practice different traditions and the people within those communities live a particular lifestyle that depends on their social habits, religion, and their native language For example, Japan is notorious for its unprecedented culture and traditions that have been conserved by the Japanese people for thousands of years. Japanese natives execute these particular attributes and values that have evolved from classical literature. One aspect that has had great impact and influence on Japanese customs and ideals is Literature.
Referring to at least two of the works you have studied, explain how the literature portrays the aspects of the society.
