Think of a person riding downhill on a bicycle that has no brake on the wheels, and who knows that there is a large glass plate placed vertically somewhere across the way. The person is sensible enough to predict that if he continues to enjoy this ever accelerating ride, he is going to collide against the invisible glass plate in a short interval. But he is so deeply content on this ride that even after the knowledge of a certain accident ahead unless he jumps out of the bicycle, he is willing to go a bit farther for his personal fulfillment. Today, we face a similar situation in which we are seemingly unwilling to help ourselves out of a possibly disastrous problem of global temperature rise.
For as long as human beings have been in

We can also rephrase this statement by stating that excessive greenhouse gases would invite global warming.
Carbon dioxide is the greenhouse gas naturally found in the atmosphere. Since the advent of the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s, humans have devised many inventions that burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gases, which, along with other human activities such as clearing land for agriculture or urban settlements, help some of these greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere that in turn trap more heat radiation in the atmosphere causing the Earth’s climate to become warmer than it would naturally (Mastrandrea). This unnatural phenomenon is termed global warming by scientists and they blame it for an increase in the Earth’s surface temperature of about 0.6°C (about 1°F) over the last 100 years (Mastrandrea).
So, is the temperature really rising? This simple answer to this question is “Yes.” According to Watson, we now have strong evidences that the climate is changing and that human activities were the primary cause of the changes during the 20th century (24). He asserts that the temperature increase in the 20th century was greater than that for any other century during the last 1000 years and the temperatures now are warmer than at any time during this period (26). Johns acclaim that the rise in CO2 levels from 280 parts per million around 1700s to 380 p.m. Today is the major factor
The scientific evidence supporting the rapid change in the climate is substantial and compelling. Technological advances, particularly with satellites, have enabled scientists to begin to understand and track the full extent of the changes. One of the greatest and widely used pieces of evidence, is the global temperature rise. There has been a documented rise in temperatures since 1880, with the greatest increases occurring since the 1970s. This coincides with the beginning of the industrialisation in more developed countries, including the UK.
There is undeniable proof of anthropogenic climate change. We are only contributing to the issue, despite having known about the issue of anthropogenic climate change for years. According to the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center, The atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are rising, causing climate change to worsen. According to NASA, the levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere were at 400.57 Parts Per Million in August, with the level in
Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gas is the reflect radiation that the earth emits, and stop it from being lost into space. This causes the Earth 's temperature to be higher than it would be without greenhouse gases. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began around 1750, human activities have contributed a lot to climate change by adding carbon dioxide and among other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. Some scientists think that greenhouse gases are causing global warming, the rise of Earth 's surface temperature.
Former United States Vice President Al Gore became interested in global warming during his years at Harvard University studying under Professor Roger Revelle. During the Clinton Administration Al Gore pushed and encouraged energy efficiency and alternate fuel resources. After Al Gore’s presidential election defeat to Georgia W. Bush in 2000, Gore focused his full attention back on global warming. Al Gore Traveled across the United States and around the world presenting a slide show featuring the concerns of global warming. Using updated material and animation “An Inconvenient Truth” was created. In this film that was the fifth highest grossing documentary to date in the United States; Al Gore puts forth an argument about our climate.
Therefore, does society want to risk the harmful effects of global warming? The effects of global warming will result in a hotter climate, rising sea levels, and more frequent and severe weather. Mankind will not like the outcome of global warming. The damage to Earth can never be undone, therefore humans must take action now. Society must reduce fossil fuel emissions and greenhouse gas emissions, if not the results will be devastating. Global warming is an important topic and society needs to realize that the future is in mankind’s
During the last century, human activities in agriculture, industry and technology have brought about a change in the chemical composition of the atmosphere. This change so far has not had a noticeable or discernible effect on world climate, but if these same activities continue, global climate change will become irreversible. The major contributing factor is the increase in the amount of carbon dioxide and other gasses in the atmosphere. These gasses are being cited as the cause for a "greenhouse effect" where they trap the heat of the sun and cause global climate change, specifically a warming trend
“Global warming is too serious for the world any longer to ignore its danger or split into opposing factions on it.” This quote by Tony Blair explains how global warming is too grave for it not to be taken solemnly or to fight over whether it exists or not. Today humans are seeing a rise in the temperatures, last year 2015 was the hottest year ever recorded(miller). As a result, thermal expansion happens which causes the water to expand and the loss of land-based ice to melt due to increased temperatures. Due to global warming sea levels are rising; therefore, society should lower its emission gases because it will displace millions of people.
Global warming has been a hot topic worldwide for over a decade. While many believe it is a problem that needs to be tended to immediately, others believe or claim for political reasons that it is just propaganda. Global warming is described by Bodnar as “The increase in temperature around the world caused by gases in the atmosphere.” (Bodnar 7) Many scientists believe that carbon dioxide gases are the main cause of Global Warming. Things such as old factories and cars emit greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere when they are put to use. This generally comes from old cars and old factories made before the nineteen nineties, because in recent years technology has been manufacturing more eco-friendly cars and factories that produce less waste. Since the discovery of global warming there have been many technological advances made in an attempt to try put a stop to global warming such as the use of wind power, solar power, and hybrids.
Climate change is something everyone in the world should work to make bigger priority. Human beings do not realize that living the way they want, instead of the way they should, is actually damaging the planet and its climate. The main thing being changed by the people that inhabit the earth is the earth’s atmosphere. Our earth is comparable to that of a giant greenhouse, in which the earth’s atmosphere is comparable to that of the glass surroundings of an actual greenhouse. Greenhouse Gases are what trap the suns heat along the surface of the earth to keep us warm at night. “Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that humans have changed the earth’s atmosphere in dramatic ways over the past two centuries, resulting in global warming”. (What is the Greenhouse Effect?) Global warming is a real problem, and it has real consequences. The slow increase in the earth’s temperature is called global warming. It is my opinion that this is because of the way people all over the earth go about their daily living. Global warming and climate change can be eliminated by upgrading building infrastructures over a period of time. Stopping the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas will also have a huge impact on reducing global warming and climate change. Deforestation is also aiding in the destruction of our planet by destroying millions of acres of land a year, and leaving the earth gasping for more air. Despite the bleak outlook of our children’s children future,
Scientists and environmental studies students have been documenting a rise in the melting of glaciers. It noticeable that the snow have been melting a lot earlier than expected every year. The production of greenhouse gases was in balance a long time ago, but that balance has been broken due to the human activity at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The elevated burning of fossil fuels caused by human activity is the main reason for this balance to break. Plants and oceans cannot handle the huge amount of greenhouse gases that humans have been dumping in the atmosphere. According to The Union of Concerned Scientists, a major group of over two thousand scientists, there has been an increase of more than 30% percent in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and it is estimated that it will triple by 2100. Carbon dioxide is the most abundant gas liberated in the burning of fossil fuels and also one of the most dangerous gases contibuting to climate change. Carbon dioxide represents about 84 percent of all greenhouse gases emitted by human activities. Carbon dioxide has a property that traps heat, thereby increasing global warming.
However, CEI scientists have reported that there is no proof that rising temperatures are linked to global warming. The Earth has gone through various periods of cooling and warming throughout its history. The rising temperatures are simply the Earth warming itself up from the previous ice age (Competitive Enterprise Institute). Contrasting with the virtual world of computer simulations, the real world presents a very different picture. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) website even states that:
Imagine you are placed into the future. The year is 2100. You begin to live in this
“Global warming is an increase in the earth's temperature due to fossil fuels, industry, and agricultural processes caused by human, natural, and other gas emissions” (EPA). Our world has gone through several stages in its lifetime. It takes time to deal and cope with changes, just like anything else. Over the years, the earth has been gradually getting warmer due to pollution. Humans, however, were slow to take the necessary actions to prevent it from getting any worse. Due to the ignorance of people we are on the edge of a very dramatic change, Global Warming. If we continue to go on with our lives, ignorant to the consequences of our actions, we will face drastic and devastating loss.
One of the hottest topics being discussed now a days is the effects of global warming on the environment and the efforts being made in order to combat the potential effects. Simply put, global warming refers to the environmental effects caused by the constant emission of carbon dioxide from carbon based fuels. These effects are supposedly widespread; the temperature of the earth will rise, the land becomes less conducive to, vegetation, and various ecosystems become extinct. There is no common consensus on how to control the problem and through out the paper it discusses the issues of global warming.
Global warming has taken its toll on the earth’s temperature. As time is moving on, the temperature only rises higher and higher. According to M. Cooper, meteorologists’ evidence shows that an average rate of one degree has risen through the century. Along with this rate, scientists
