People from all walks of life face many ethical dilemmas. These dilemmas have consequences. Our worldview determines how we deal with these dilemmas, and guides us to the right decisions. In this essay, I will examine an ethical issues through my Christian worldview. I will also present other viewpoints, and compare them to mine.
“In the hands of an impaired driver, a vehicle becomes a murderous weapon.” ( ) Everyone can think of someone who has driven impaired, or even maybe you have done it yourself. The fact that one can think of someone who has driven impaired is a problem. Too many people are getting behind the wheel after drinking, smoking; or are not paying attention while they drive. Impaired driving continues to a problem although strides have been made to make a difference. There are many different types of impaired driving, each that have their own consequences. These types, and consequences will be explored in this essay.

This is Mr. Hartshorn’s 1st DUI conviction; there are no others located in his history. Mr. Hartshorn accepts and takes responsibility for his actions that evening. Mr. Hartshorn does not believe he has a problem with alcohol. He states that he had been drinking twice a week but does not see it as a problem since he has stopped before. He advised that he has consumed alcohol since the incident, most recently around two and a half weeks ago. This was discussed with him in great detail. Based on the above information, his history, and what he reported, it is this officer’s opinion that there may be a need for a structured treatment program, and it would be a benefit to Mr. Hartshorn that he obtain an in-depth substance abuse evaluation.
According to police reports, Mr. Jonathan Hartshorn was involved in a single vehicle non-injury accident when the vehicle he was operating rear ended another vehicle in the drive thru lane at 1212 S Rock Rd. Officers were called to the accident and made contact with Mr. Hartshorn, who had moved to 1219 S Rock Rd. Officer Reser made contact with Mr. Hartshorn and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Mr. Hartshorn. Mr. Hartshorn also had slurred speech. I made contact with driver and requested license and insurance. The driver provided a State of Illinois ID card (Duarte, Jesus Ariel DOB 03/17/69), which was checked through L.E.A.D.S. via dispatch. The name check revealed his driver's license was valid, no wants or warrants. Duarte was unable to provide insurance for the vehicle. While speaking with Duarte, I detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath/person. Duarte also had glassy, red, and bloodshot eyes. According to the reporter, around 1: am this morning (01/26/2016), it was reported by the D’Iberville Police Department (Sergeant Crawford) that the victim was in a physical altercation (no details given) with an older adult. The child refused to go home. Sergeant Crawford called the reporter for assistance. The child wanted to go home with an older adult that he knew, but it was reported that she was under the influence of marijuana. His mother (Robin) was unable to pick him up, due to not having any transportation. Vantonio refused to go home because he says his mom’s boyfriend (unknown) abuses him and has left marks (unknown when). It is unknown

On July 26, 2015, a young male and a female pulled up to a restaurant parking lot with the intent to sell marijuana (Wing 2015). Moments later the individual who was to purchase the marijuana showed up and the deal ended with the male being fatally shot (Wing 2015). What was not revealed until later was the intended purchaser was an undercover police officer (Wing 2015). In a different situation, on August 8, 2015 a young male crashed his vehicle into a car dealership and police officers responded to a potential burglary in progress to discover the male at the car dealership (Murdock 2015). In the video titled, “Top 3 Sobriety Tests – number,” the officer pulled over a female that appeared to be driving erratically. As the officer noticed the female, she was swerving her vehicle and crossing into one lane into the next without having any regard for other traffic nor the officer which was trying to make a stop of her vehicle. When the female finally pulled over to the right making a stop, the officer approached her front passenger door in which he asked the female a few questions about her consuming alcohol before the vehicle starting rolling backwards towards the officer parked patrol vehicle. In summary, on 09/26/16 at 2220 hours, I assisted Ofc. Drakulich #255 at 3113 S 54th Ave. in regards to a traffic stop. Upon arrival, I made contact with the driver (Lopez, Cristian D.O.B. 08/09/93) of the vehicle (14' Dodge IL IL E822075). I observed signs of impairment on Cristian, he had red, glassy, and bloodshot eyes. While I spoke with Cristian, he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and cannabis emanating from his breath and person. Cristian related that he smoked cannabis earlier, but was unable to provide an exact time. Cristian would repeatedly give the response of "yes sir" or "no sir" without being asked any questions.
