Films are a reflection of the events and occurrences in society. It’s no secret that racism is a moral issue that has been around for many years, however, one of the films that have depicted various ethical issues in racism is American Denial: The Truth is Deeper than Black and White. Some of the issues brought to our attention throughout this film include racial profiling and discrimination against those who are labeled as blacks, which in itself is very discriminating. In the modern times, some of the most critical and ethical issues that a film would focus on include but are not limited to are police brutality against the Black Americans, ethical discrimination in the workplace, as well as the neglect of racism observed within the health care sector. Evidently, race and racism continue to be implicated in various sectors where there are ethnic and cultural minority groups. There are specific ethical issues that are raised throughout the film based on the possibilities of bias. American Denial is a great film in relation to the racial problems facing America and provides an insight into the moral lessons, but one of the most intriguing questions it seeks to ask is that is it morally acceptable of hating someone because of his or her skin colour or ethnical background. Through American Denial it portrays how racism has impacted young African American kids through “the doll study” where the kids were asked which doll is good and bad and the majority of the kids said the black are bad and the white are good.
