Being a professional in the Field of Psychology requires high moral values, and is essential in all work environments and fields of practice. Morals are defined by a person’s attitude, maturity, and willingness to promote fairness regardless of any situation. Having no morals or values can potentially put a professional at risk of breaking the establish standards known as the American Psychological Association Ethnical Code of Conduct.

The Code was established to promote high regard in ones works and to ensure that correct practices are being used at all time. It also ensures that professionals treat patients with respect and make knowledgeable of best practices in regarding the services rendered to them. All the standards are very

Psychological professional’s work may be altered to reflect the benefit of the company that they are employed by. Examples could be school officials altering evaluations test to place more students in certain classes, justice system altering test to punish inmates, or mental health agencies and/or non profit groups altering test to gain more clients thus more funding for their program. It is the professional’s responsblity when upon learning of this to correct the matter immediately. Professionals are required “to be familiar with this Ethics Code, other applicable ethics codes, and their application to psychologists’ work. Lack of awareness or misunderstanding of an ethical standard is not itself a defense to a charge of unethical conduct” (Canter, Bennett, Jones, Nagy, 1994). If a professional disregards this kind of situation, he could be held just as responsible as the other party including losing practicing licensing, fines, or both.

Standard 1.02 Conflicts Between Ethics and Law, Regulations, or Other Governing Legal Authority, references to a professional’s responsibility to obey the Ethnics code and when it conflicts with government or other authorities of law. The codes suggests that when in question try to resolve the issues, but at the same time ensure that it doesn’t permits violating the ethics code.
