Introduction
Everyone’s views of ethics and morals are different because we all have experience different things in life that have contributed to the way we view things ethically acceptable. Throughout my 21 years on this earth my views on ethics and morals have change. I think that ethics and morals are taught to us by the people we surround ourselves with and the environment that we are in. For example, the behaviors that I experienced in public school on the regular basis, would seem bazar to the people in the North Hills school district, where I transferred to in my junior year of high school. In public school people would roam the halls, talk over teachers, and do a whole lot of other things that aren’t normal in a high school setting.

This was of thinking relates to Aristotle’s concept of the golden mean. The golden mean refers to the median between being to virtuous and not being virtuous at all. As humans we should strive to be around the golden mean with our virtuous. For example we seen Private Pyle go from not being virtuous at all to having too much of a virtue. Private Pyle had too much of the virtue of courage. He was so courageous that he ended up killing his commanding officer. This is an example of how too much of a virtue can become a bad thing. The golden mean is the best way for people to live for us to maintain a peaceful …show more content…
In college people value their education, respecting others, communication, and other things that rational people value. I learn a lot about ethics just from being in the college environment and also from a lot of my course material. I actually took a business ethics class last year that focused on ethics and I spent a whole semester talking about the subject. In the class, we learned about how your environment can affect your ethics and values. I also learned this in my psychology life span class, which was about studying humans and how they evolve over a life time. In this class we learn about how your parents can have an effect on your ethics; but, they only can teach you so much. People learn more from experience than they learn from their parents. We also learn how your perspectives of life change through different stages of your life. For example, when you are young, you value the opinion of your parents more than anything. In your early grade school years you try your best to make your parents proud. At a young age parents have control of persuading their children to act in a way that is ethically correct. If a parent encourages their child to be respectful to others the child will try their best to follow their wishes. If a parent encourages their child to curse and hit people as an adolescent the child will think that type of behavior is acceptable. This is
As a child growing up I was taught how to differentiate between right and wrong. Those teaching have been the basis for how I conduct myself in my personal and professional life. I believe every person should be able to look at him or herself in the mirror and see an honest, ethical person looking back at them. At the end of the day, my philosophy on ethics is simply "Integrity is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching." By Jim Stovall, American author.
To help them understand that kids are love and joy and whatever they are doing they need guidance and not always a lecture. I will help them to see that it is not, how smart their children are, it is how are their children smart. I will help encourage them that even if their children are not going to be doctors or lawyers, they have a perfect place to be in this world.
I think that higher education should promote better ethics. I feel if someone is going to try and better themselves and try and gain more knowledge then a little ethics refresher courses should help as well. I think that colleges should promote ethics. Reason being that people are going to college to train in the field that they are going to make a career out of which is where most people will spend their life doing. So they should help teach ethics to those that are planning on becoming an adult. High school prepares you for college but they don’t have ethics classes in high school too much. There are also a lot of families that unfortunately don’t teach their children moral and ethical values. So I think that colleges can help with
“Great individuals have great ethics and great values.” Ethics and morality can be used interchangeably as they sound as if they mean the same although there is a wide distinction between them. “Strictly speaking, morality is used to refer to what we would call moral standards and moral conduct while ethics is used to refer to the formal study of those standards and conduct. For this reason, the study of ethics is also often called moral philosophy." (Gordana D 2007)
Personal: Ethics to me is a value system that each individual upholds due to their own conscience. I believe ethics can be different for each individual person primarily because every person will have their own value system. Although ethics is individualized I believe most people will have the same values. For example if you asked a class full of students if it is okay to cheat on exams almost all of the students would say no. of course there is always that one person who does not follow any ethical guidelines. That person just believes in getting what they want, when they want no matter what the cost. Whether it’s cheating, lying, or even stealing. Personally I believe these types of people simply didn’t get enough love as a child. With that being said, this leads me to believe that ethics originates at childhood. Most people would say it was there parents who taught them what’s right and what’s wrong. Personally for me, I give credit to my church for teaching me right from wrong. When I was young, probably about nine years old I would go to the Christian church across the street from
I believe that ethical behavior can be taught, but can also depend on how well you were raised. As you grow, you learn more about the world and the wrongs and right that may not have been taught at home. Some may believe that the are only instilled from birth, but at the same time, a human goes through so many changes that their views change as they get older and society changes. When making decisions, you have your peers who will play major part in a decision, however, if you were taught those ethics at home, you will view it from all perspectives before making that finally
Though the clips were somewhat interesting, they appeared to follow the dominant discourse poking at areas of moral panic to sell a one sided experience. All of the clips also addressed the topics from an essentialist perspective to draw their audience while selling a false sense of betterment to view the lives of those in the clips. However, the experience would be more valuable if greater focus and a constructionist perspective were used to create a stronger sense of cultural competency to address the realities of those depicted. In turn the clips perpetuated the fears of the unknown and strengthened the moral panics in society. In addition is seems that dominant discourse remained unchallenged in the clips and added to the kyriarchy that
Nowadays moral ethics are considered relative. Relative to culture, relative to the needs of a person, relative to circumstances and relative to what one assumes is right or wrong. Everyone has a different perspective on what is true; a person might believe that ‘x’ is true while another may not. The same concept applies to ethics, one person might say killing animals for food is correct and another might say it is incorrect as we can survive on natural food. So each person has a different estimation on making truth claims about ethics, the opinion depends on what is right or wrong and what is ethical and what is not.
Recent research suggests that human beings have the technology to revert species extinction. Scientists are able to reassemble the DNA in a dead tissue of extinct animals. However, the DNA is not perfect because it contains bacteria, fungi, or other micro-organism’s DNA. Scientists have to find their closest living relative and reassemble the missing gene to form a hybrid gene. These technique can potentially bring any extinct animal back as long as we have its DNA. For this new technology, we will be using the theory of Utilitarianism to examine the ethics behind it.
There are many people who are willing to help a student increase his or her knowledge on ethics and morals. The author of “The Unacknowledged Ethicists on Campuses,” David A. Hoekema talks about three groups that helps students understand the importance of morals and ethics. Those groups are professors, student-life administrators, and student leaders. Members from each of these groups work together to help students increase their behavior and use their skills and abilities to reach success. “hold themselves responsible for preparing engaging lectures, setting challenging assignments, and keeping their own intellects continually sharpened by research and scholarship” Hoekema 456. The people from Hoekema’s group sacrifice their time teaching students about ethics and morals from their busy schedule. The students have to understand and appreciate those people’s hard work. A person cannot teach ethical behavior like they teach math or history. It is not a subject. It is part of who a person is. Even though there are people at universities to help a student to understand the importance of ethics and morals, they cannot teach it like a subject. The reason why a person should behave ethically is
In this essay, I will consider several popular theories discussed by well-known philosophers that will help me decide ethical dilemma. The situation is that one of my coworker has been using work-place resource to run personal side-business. She tells me a convincing story of personal adversity and struggling to get ahead, and ask to meet next day to talk about. About the same time, I receive and email reminding all employees that the work place ethics code forbids using work-place resources for personal financial profit. To make ethically right decision in this ethical dilemma, I will focus on the philosophers’ standpoint and reasoning of ethics of care, ethics of justice, utilitarian ethics and universal principle to analyze the situation. In this tough situation, my conclusion is that I will not report this action to the higher authority although she is violating work place ethics code. I will provide my reasoning why I will not report this to the higher authority in this essay.
When people think of ethics, they think of norms or standards that help them distinguish their moral instincts in an atmosphere, but ethics is much more than that. The best way to interpret ethics, and my general ethical philosophy, is to look at your beliefs and think about your reaction if those beliefs were challenged. My ethics are the norms that I follow which allow me to carry out all of my decisions and the way I live my life.
The study of ethics and morality is an extremely broad and general theme. It covers countless different areas of human life and our relationships with the decisions we make and their effects on all aspects of our own and others’ lives. According to the text of Thiroux and Krasemann, the topic of sexual morality is truly “the heart of morality” (260). The morality of human sexuality and marriage deeply covers the complex characteristics of human relationships and friendships, sexuality, love, intimacy, and a multitude of other moral engagements between humans. The main objective of this paper is to examine and clarify why, as humans, we should be concerned with the sexual morality of ourselves and others. While other major themes covered prior may not relate to all humans directly (such as abortion or the debate of taking a life), moral issues in sexuality are experienced by every member of humanity. In certain societies, the sexual behavior of a person is intensely dependent on the policies and rules of their religion. Even though religion serves as the mighty tradition holder of many cultures, it does not provide a fair explanation for how people should behave in terms of sexuality because of its ambiguity and lack of clarity. Sexual morality should be a concern to all human beings because we are all influenced by the purposes and public and private aspects of human sexuality, and we also all face conflicts in regards to various moral issues of sexuality. In addition, the
The majority of organizations have an obligation to build and operate their business with strong moral principles. Leaders should have the confidence and be comfortable with their decision to move their organization in a particular direction. Whether your company is taking a new direction or not, one of the many moral philosophies to apply is that of privacy. To be accountable by rules and concepts that prevent others access to employee actions and communication. To be certain that private information is never exposed to the public, without the rule of law. Any organization that builds upon a reputation of privacy, will eventually be recognized as having an ethical and moral philosophy. Another moral obligation for organizations is to fire, or train poorly performing managers. It’s rare that any major transformation effort goes perfectly smoothly, as people start along the learning curve, progress will follow. Poorly trained and poorly performing managers only prevent your organization and moral philosophies from advancing.
Now that both sides have been established, those stakeholders who favor and those who oppose the policy in question, each of their argument 's evidence and reasoning will be analyzed. The corresponding pages which follow will provide an understanding of each side through three developed sections: a critical analysis, moral reasoning, and a tentative solution. The critical analysis will thoroughly measure to what level an argument 's authoritative, accuracy, reliability, precision, applicability, and etc. is able to represent their claims. At the same time the critical analysis includes a judgement call on whether or not a side 'wins ' or 'loses ' each of their arguments based upon the strength and weakness of the argument 's claims and evidence. The moral reasoning section will then secondary the value of each side 's evidence, and focus on analyzing each side 's moral reasoning, or rather, evaluating what "values, obligations, consequences, and normative principles" present reasonableness to their position on morality. Following these two sections of analysis, a conclusion will be made on which of the two sides makes an overall stronger, more conclusive and moral argued solution to the normative question.
