Merriam-Webster defines ethics as a set of moral principles (Marriam-Webster, 2013). School leaders have the Arkansas Code of Ethics to guide them in determining what is ethical behavior but even better than that, God has provided us with clear guidance as to what is ethical and what is not. Ethics is what we have when everyone or no one is looking. Leaders have an obligation given by God to be moral no matter what the situation. Leaders must stand up for what is right at all times. In a situation, if a leader must ask, “I wonder if this is unethical,” then the answer is probably yes. It is most likely a bad idea. Praying before acting is a very good guide when trying to make a big or small decision. Ethical behavior many times is unpopular but the question must be asked, “Who’s opinion is important?” The answer will determine the depth of ethics within a person. God’s opinion is the only one that matters and if a leader walks that way, he/she will make ethical decisions.
