Tavian Ruffin 4/6/11 Ethics & Morality of Stealing Ethics: a branch of philosophy which seeks to address questions about morality; that is, about concepts such as good and bad, right and wrong, justice, and virtue. Morale: a state of individual psychological well-being based upon a sense of confidence and usefulness and purpose. Stealing: to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, especially secretly by force In criminal law, theft is the illegal taking of another person's property without that person's freely-given consent. The word is also used as an informal shorthand term for some crimes against property, such as burglary, embezzlement, larceny, looting, shoplifting, fraud, and sometimes …show more content…
No matter which of the three reasons a person has for stealing, it is still wrong, I have learned this through my own person experience. This is the reason that retail prices can be so out of control. Shoplifting can cause a 15% to 20% increase in prices over a 2 year time period. This also decreases the bottom line profits of a company. The bottom line is what is left of the profits after all the expenses are paid. From the bottom line employees get raises, bonuses, profit sharing, and all the other things that are based entirely on profit. There many types of criminals and for every criminal there is a different method of stealing. Once a shoplifter finds a particular method that works, they tend to stick to it. Now this works both ways. Because once a loss prevention officer figures out how someone is stealing, they now know what to look for and eventually will catch them. Shoplifters are people of habit. This means once they have found a store they can steal from successfully, they will continue to steal from that store. Not only will they continue to steal, but they will take more and more each time. In addition, greed shoplifters also have no conscience. This allows them to steal and not feel guilty about it. They actually believe that they are doing nothing wrong. In conclusion, the ethics in stealing is that it is very wrong an shouldn’t be done. The act of stealing itself shows the true character in a
What is stealing? Stealing is defined as to take the property of another person without right or permission. How does stealing have an impact on children’s lives and in education? As we all know stealing is unacceptable in schools or in classrooms and the behaviour requires zero tolerance as it infringes the right pupils and staff to feel safe. Children steal for a reason, before you can take the right behaviour issues; teachers need to first understand why students are stealing. The main reasons for stealing are: To fulfil a need for attention; envy and jealousy; greed and finally hatred.
If you do shoplift you feel immense humiliation and distrust from friends and family, and your own conscious is hurt if it isn't then there is something wrong with your feelings not to feel bad about stealing from stores. Every time you steal from stores they are set back that much money and might even have to fire someone that could be one of your friends.People in the community lose respect for you.
Shoplifting is a major problem in today’s world. I myself was recently caught shoplifting and now I have to face the consequences for the bad mistake I made. The temptation of not paying for something is very big factor in why people steal. The shoplifter thinks he is getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's really doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting affects yourself, your local neighborhood and the world population.
Theft involves the taking of property or services that belong to another person. Theft differs from borrowing in that the person taking the property or services does so with the intent to deprive the owner of these items permanently. The state may prosecute the crime as a misdemeanor or felony, depending on which state the crime took place in and the level of severity. The level of severity is determined by the type of property stolen
Larceny is defined as the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another from his or her possession with intent to convert them to the takers own use. To bluntly say it, larceny is stealing from others. No matter what the motives or reasons behind stealing are, it is still wrong. I imagine there is a multitude of motives for someone to convince himself or herself that it is worth the risk to steal something. Some other people might also not have the conscience to feel wrong for stealing. A large part of this is because people do not understand who or what they are harming when they steal. It is very common to become self-indulged and only worry about your problems. Even after being caught someone might only feel
Steal in our dictionary means to take any other person's property. However in baseball, it means to run to an additional base without the batter getting a hit and without getting tagged by the ball by an opposing player or run out of the base line
I understand stealing is not a good thing, but sometimes it’s necessary. And other times it can lead to a nice thing, though this is rather rare.
tags. Such as vehicles, personal property and high end items in stores or on people. Not all of these are looked at as theft. Depending on the amount, item, intention and what was involved to help steal all depends on the circumstances that judge the consequences. Robbery is when one has the intension to steal product(s) with the intent to severally hurt or kill anything in or around its path. This involves a direct or indirect weapon of any kind weather its intent is for the use of scaring someone to give up the product(s) or use this tool for the help to break in. House breaks in’s (B&E), vehicle theft and breaking into a vehicle is all categorized as robbery due to the severity and intent to do such an act. Robbery can jeopardize and threaten the life of
I think stealing is wrong because your taking something that someone earn. What if someone stole from you, you would be mad .But sometimes you can accidently steal stuff. Like when you are at the store and accidently grab something and you leave the store.
The theft act 1968 is a law that requires the defendant that is guilty of theft to face up to a penalty of 7 years for stealing. The Fraud act 2006 is when an individual is selling fake products to their customers.
While stealing is usually unlawful, there are some areas where stealing is allowed. Assessing what has been stolen, should be part of the reason why the person is punished, or not. What has been stolen? Is the stolen good able to hurt someone? Some people steal to hurt people, and therefore, they should be punished. They are breaking the law. In other cases, figurative language is used, and people say they stole a joke. They should not be punished for stealing a joke. Next, when a crime is committed, a law has to be broken, to be punished. Certain things have to be done for the law to be broken. When people steal other people's property, that is a crime. When people steal bases in baseball like Jay did, that is not a crime. What did they
Ordinary theft, as opposed to kleptomania, is deliberate and is motivated by the usefulness of the object or its monetary worth.
Is stealing considered ethical? According to Carol Gilligan, stealing may be the right thing to do if and when the scenario is right (Feminine Ethics: Ethics of Care). So what makes a situation suitable for stealing? Well that depends on a lot of things. First and most importantly though is the care involved. Carol Gilligan (2011) explains, “An ethics of care directs our attention to the need for responsiveness in relationships (paying attention, listening, responding) and to the costs of losing connection with oneself or with others. Its logic is inductive, contextual, psychological, rather than deductive or mathematical.” In other words, caring is ultimately about others, learning to put them first and emphasizing the relationships between friends and family. To do so, one must comprehend the following: understanding what stage of morality a person is going through, how they are care for others, the leadership roles that one possesses, how society and culture impact the development of the individual and the emphasis gender has on morality is also important in determining whether stealing is right or wrong. Identifying these things will help to better understand the ethical issues that follow and the theory used to describe it.
At present, stealing comprises a much broader kinds of activities than it used to; it would be enough to remember shop-lifting or numerous facts of counterfeit product utilization when intellectual property is stolen against copyright-based laws and regulations. Stealing, therefore, is expanding and spreading; moreover, the very notion of what is stealing becomes modified and fuzzy. What are then the instruments that the consequential approach
The only time i think looting is OK is when you are on the verge of starvation and are about to die, i believe this because if you don't have food to eat and survive, then i understand if you have to steal, if you have no other ideas which you should, that is your final resort that you have to stoop to.
