When evaluating practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, it is necessary that Competency 2: Ethical Practice and Competency 3: Critical Thinking are taken into consideration. Competency 2 requires that social workers are able to recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows professional values to guide practice. Competency 3 requires social workers to demonstrate effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations, and colleagues. By following these competency skills, a social worker is able to evaluate their experience with these different populations without being bias, and can display diversity within the profession of social work.

They understand the value in ethical and professional behavior and the impact it has on their work. Social workers must maintain the highest form of ethical practice because of their intense work in the community. Social workers use NASW Code of Ethics to help them make the most ethical decision because they often hold a lot of weight. Social workers also know how to differentiate their personal beliefs even when in difficult situations. They do not mix their values as a social worker with their values as a person and therefore do not let their beliefs affect their work. In today 's ever changing medical scene, the educational requirements necessary to graduate from college and receive a job are constantly changing. As science advances and more people seek out healthcare, the prerequisites needed to provide this healthcare are becoming more and more rigorous. This is especially evident in the field of physical therapy. Over the last 135 years, the entry-level education requirements have slowly changed from a simple masters degree to a new doctorate degree, the Doctor of Physical Therapy (Threlked and Paschal). While most people agree with this new requirement, others argue that the time and effort required to receive this degree result in minimal benefits. Contrary to these claims, physical therapists should be required to graduate from a Doctor of Physical Therapy program prior to becoming a licensed physical therapist because this level of education teaches them the skills necessary to be a successful physical therapist.

Prior to ten years ago, a typical physical therapist had their masters in physical therapy with bachelors in either kinesiology, biology, or exercise science. However, due to the demand for physical therapist and new discoveries and findings to improve treatments. The NPTA which is the National Physical Therapy Association has required that after 2006 all graduating students, in order to be a practicing physical therapist they must obtain a doctorate in physical therapy. Although, the requirement was grandfathered to those who already were practicing, those with doctorates were being paid more, had more clientele and were allowed more freedom. Due to this increase, many physical therapist with master 's obtained their doctorate to stay competitive and knowledgeable of their profession. To become a physical therapist, a student must earn a professional degree, such as a doctorate in physical therapy. College programs vary in physical therapy but are typically an incorporation of classwork and clinical rotations. Additionally, in order to be recognized by the state, the person have been licensed to legally work as a physical therapist. Due to demand, there have become different programs available to obtain a doctorate. As a licensed professional psychologist, it will be easy to know who the client will be because the client will request a service, pay and consent form signed. Client cannot be easily defined as just a paying customer because a client encompasses so many other things.

Professional values and ethics are based on the foundations of personal values, professional and, academic integrity. Integrity is the act of doing what is right even if there is no one is around. Personal values are comprised of an individual’s integrity, morals, and ethics, the standards in which, an individual holds him or herself to. I believe that these other specialties can potentially harm physical therapy by creating niches that could potentially limit the scope of practice of the physical therapist. Physical Therapy is a job on the rise. Not only is it a great field to help people it also makes for a great career. The demand for physical therapist has grown so much so that “the demand for physical therapists is expected to grow by 30% between 2008 and 2018” (Black Enterprise 2014). Because of this statistic and other like it, the journey to becoming a physical therapist is tough one. One must obtain graduate school and also must meet the pre-requisites for that school to become a physical therapist, and also must receive a license. There are now different types of physical therapists because of the growing interest in this field.

In many ways physical therapy is similar to other health care fields. Rules, regulations, and standard of care is basically the same, however the environment and relationship with the patients is quite different. Physical Therapy clinics tend to be much more relaxed than other forms of health care. Physical therapist will typically go by their first names and dress in business casual to athletic attire. This helps the therapists seem more approachable and allows them to build stronger relationships with their patients. Unlike many other health professions, physical therapists can see a patient multiple times a week, for months. The patient-provider relationship becomes very close and often personal. This is one of the reasons that physical therapy attracted me so much. Getting to spend quality time with patients while building their strength and getting to know more about them as a person seemed like a worthwhile use of my abilities. Contemporary health care can at times seem like a wellness factory. A sick patient comes in, you fix them up and then it’s on to the next one. Physiotherapy is my initial career choice. In various ways it also resembles my other options. Athletes commit themselves to the depths of the most intense training and practice to excel in the fields of their profession. Lawmakers enact laws to help improve processes for the judicial system. Professors and educators teach and guide students to their desired paths to success. I want to integrate all these attributes as a physiotherapist to educate my patients to lead a healthier life, practice and train to reach dexterity as a physiotherapist and work to enhance the methods of medical practice.

When looking at the IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice, there were some steps that Betty Vinson could have taken to avoid any of the punishments that were given to her. Before following any of the IMA’s recommended actions of recourse, Vinson should have referred to WorldCom’s recognized policies on ethical behavior and follow the actions that they have written and approved to take. If WorldCom’s executives still were demanding her to falsify the journal entries after following her company’s policy, then the IMA would state that she should have discussed the issue with your immediate supervisor or the next level of management if her supervisor was involved in the unethical activity. One important thing to note with this, however, is that “Contact with levels above the immediate superior should be initiated only with your superior’s knowledge, assuming he or she is not involved (Institute of Management Accountants, 2005).

I chose to compare the CEC Professional Ethical Principles with the ethical code from the American Academy of Special Education. I noticed as I was reading that some of their ethical codes are similar in their commitment to provide the child with the best education possible. Creating a safe environment for the child at all times, treating the child with dignity, respecting their culture, language and background. The importance of continuous improvement in education for the teachers as a way to progress the learning outcomes of individual with exceptionalities. Another similarity is how both ethical code do not encourage the corporal punishment of individuals with exceptionalities, protecting the child physically
