Within my role I sometimes had to do public speaking which I had to address a group of people and as we already know this is another form of verbal communication. I always ensure I am well prepared and organised for an effective speech. I do strongly believe In public speaking, my speech must be prepared according to the type of audience I are going to face. People need to have a certain type of voice to make a speech effective. To make a speech effective it depends on your tone of voice and how you deliver your speech. If you deliver your speech effectively, it could be memorable and even make a great impact on the world. An example of a speaker that made a great impact on the world is, Martin Luther King Jr, who delivered the famous I Have a Dream speech. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist and he wanted to make a change in America. King wanted American’s to treat each other equally and not have discrimination against people depending on what race they were. King’s speech is effective because of the tone and rate he uses, his reasonable arguments, and his use of repetition

Audience: what argument can you make about the way the beliefs and values, demographics, or shared experience of the audience shaped the speech?

Having the elements of a clear tone, captivating, educational, or motivating speech, and the proper body language gives the impression of bonding with the speaker and the audience. Compassion and consideration is important when delivering the speech to the audience. This provides the audience with the sense that the speaker understands exactly what he or she is speaking about and possibly feel the exact way about the speech being delivered.

It is not relatively easy to be a great speaker. To pull your audience to you, and have them consuming every sentence you prepare for them, every word you breathe. Your audience has to believe in you, trust you. They need hope and encouragement. Every word produced, and every expression given away, has to be a part of the plan. Essentially, prevailing as a great speaker is an art; an art that must be practiced and polished until a fresh gem is formed. President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are not unaware of this powerful tool.

During the speech, I was also a good speaker in many ways. I had a good voice projection, my hand moment was consistent, I was always facing the audience and held eye contact, and had facial expressions to emphasize the importance of a topic. Right off the bat when I was explaining my citation saying According to the U.S Census Bureau “there are alone 5.7% Asian’s in the United States,” I was pointing my hands to make sure everyone was paying attention to the numbers. Another thing I did well during the speech was, that I kept eye contact with everyone during the speech

Whenever giving a presentation it is important to properly communicate with your audience. In order for a presentation to be affective, the speaker must know who they are presenting to in order to inform, persuade, or entertain them. In order to be successful in getting your message across it benefits the speaker to have information about their guest such as their interest, likes and dislikes. You never want to go into a situation unaware of who your audience is in order to keep them interested.

Throughout life we express ourselves through words. The way we present ourselves through speech says a lot about our character. The way one speaks to others can jeopardize the amount of respect and trust others have for them. From the way one pronounces a word to their posture can affect the way an audience interprets what is being said. Personally, I am not confident with my speaking skills at this point. I would like my audience to fully comprehend the concepts or facts that I would present to them. Furthermore, the speaker is visually boring because of they are lack of confidence and fear of public speaking. Effective speakers use visual language to engage the audience. Your hand gestures, facial expression, posture, movement and eye contact are critical components of your visual language. When you take the stage, always maintain eye contact with the audience, not with the screen behind you. Make sure you are appropriately and professionally dressed for the occasion. Make sure your appearance is neat and clean. You don’t need to have a 1000 dollar suit but you need to be dressed appropriately. You don’t want the audience to remember you because your slip was showing or because your shirt was wrinkled. Don’t wear anything that is distracting and takes away from your message. For example, 20 bangle bracelets that make noise every time you gesture is not a great idea. Practice your hand gestures and body movement when you rehearse your speech.
