Lee not only got worldwide fame from the show he also won his third Tony for it. Lee’s name and sets are used all around the world. Despite doing so many high profile shows Lee also designs sets for small time theaters. Lee doesn’t seem to care whether the show is on Broadway or a little theater in providence. Lee besides being known for sets in New York City, Lee has designed the sets for Trinity Repertory Theater in Providence, since the 1960’s. Many of Lee’s coworkers, describe him as a dedicated, imaginative designer. Lee seemingly never repeats a set, when you step into one of his sets you are transported to somewhere else. Richard Jenkins (a former actor at Trinity) recalls a time when, Lee went out on the stage during an intermission and torched away a cab because it blocked the view of the actors. Lee’s reputation has given him jobs all over. Lee has never sent out a resume and he doesn’t even have a PR person, being so well known people line up to hire him. Lee though has never let this fame go to his head, he still works equally hard on each set. He doesn’t even know how much he gets paid. Lee’s wife Brooke takes care of all his finances all Lee wants is a little spending money in his pocket and he’s happy. Eugene Lee has impacted the world of theater in ways most designers wouldn’t even dream

Joe-Lewis, not a name heard often, in fact, if people know boxing, they think he is named after the famous boxer Joe Lewis. However he is not named after the boxer, he is named after our father, Lewis because his nickname was Joe-Lewis, hence Joe-Lewis’s name. His first name is unique just like his middle name, Brown after our great grandfather, Joe-Lewis’s middle name matches his hair and eyes. Small not a word used to describe his physical appearance anymore, Joe-Lewis is now five foot, six inches tall and slender, his baby fat gone, along with his chubby cheeks, now replaced with strong cheekbones. Not only did Joe-Lewis’s physical appearance change, but his wardrobe changed as well.

For many young theatre lovers, Stephen Sondheim is their introduction the the musical theatre world. Whether it be from Into the Woods to West Side Story, Sondheim has been a great inspiration to those wanting to be introduced to the musical theatre world. People praise Sondheim on his ability to create compelling characters and expanded worlds that the characters live in. What Sonheim is credited for most, however, is his creation of the plotless musical. He created a bunch of characters and then proceeded to round out their stories into one song. He took seven one act plays and created one musical. Company was created in the 1970s and reflected the values of the time while being able to still reflect the values of today.
The play “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” was performed in Indiana University, in Bloomington, on November 2013. The acting in the play was very well performed, for a couple of different reasons. Each actor seemed to develop a personal relation with its own character and thought about the smallest details for their characters. The director of the play was Marti Maraden, who is a sought freelance director. Her debut in this play made it better because she had worked on so many different plays and know what each of them need. The director of the play did state that it was wonderful working with a group of people that took everything seriously and that they worked very hard for the production. She also stated that they were able to have such a wonderful production because the school picks people based upon their acting skills and how interested they are in theater. For her to say that the acting skills of the
Jonathan Larson had a knack for reinventing theater in 1988 he was awarded with the Richard Rodgers Production Award for Superbia, a story parallel to George Orwell’s 1984” (http://userpages.umbc.edu/~mp6/rent/auth/author.html) He also reinvented La Boheme into an updated American musical drawing from many personal events.
The set which was the interior of a hotel, was quite detailed and included all the bells and whistles (literally). For instance, the multiple doors integrated was perfect for the exaggerated and dramatic slams, that usually signaled a musical number. The one thing I will say that was a bit disappointing, was that lack of luxury. The way the hotel on Broadway was described to me from my sister, who is a theater enthusiast, was that it was one of luxury and money, but I felt although it was an intricate set, it did fall short on the little affluent particulars, such as the chandeliers I heard so much about. Eric Nelson on the other hand designed the lighting design, which I personally enjoyed because I thought he clearly and boldly highlighted the hilarious mischief of the production.
A life of fame, luxury, and well known plays. This was unquestionably the life of Arthur Miller, who is one of America’s well known playwrights of the twentieth century. His impact on American theater is still recognized today and will continue to be looked at for years to come. However, Miller will not only be recognized by his plays but by his high profile marriage, his work in politics and the list goes on. Arthur miller is viewed through American literature by his life, literary works, and impact on American theater.
