ASSIGNMENT 1 NAME: KABILEN CHANDRASEGARAN STUDENT ID: 123981 SUBJECT: PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SUBJECT CODE: HRM 202 DUE DATE: WEEK 5 In this modern era, the changing environment has tremendously shaped the relationship between the employee and employer, especially the psychological contract. This leads to the situation wherein unrealistic self-assessment of performance by an employee can often lead to violation of the Psychological contract, thus I strongly agree that an unrealistic self assessment by an employee is capable of breaking a psychological contract. This essay predominantly aims at reviewing the essentials of a psychological contract such as the definition, the difference between ‘relational’ and ‘transactional’ psychological contracts, violation and the effects of a violated psychological contract on individuals’ behaviour. The review is as following. Psychological contract plays a vital role in an organisations working culture, and it is an applicable aspect of people 's behaviour and attitude. In other words, a psychological contract is defined as the expectation that employers and employees have about each other (De Cieri et al. 2009). It is an intangible, informal contract that the employee perceives about their employment relationship. This includes factors such as, workplace condition, work place environment and what is expected to be completed on a daily basis. In essence, this contract differs from any other formal contracts, as this
The psychological contract that I conclude to exist between the company, SAS and its employees is trust in regards to “creating a great work environment” and “employee commitment.” The employees are expecting the company to continue its efforts in creating an environment that fosters a phenomenal work/life balance in exchange to produce quality work. The excess hours spent at work would normally be spent with family or as a time of relaxation, so being in an environment where you are home away from home is a necessity that impacts directly on customer service. For an example, the study published in the Harvard Business Review article, “The Employee-Customer Profit Chain at Sears” proved that an increase in employee satisfaction resulted in customer satisfaction, which resulted in higher profits. (The Psychological Contract and Commitment 3). A good relationship between employees and their working environment has a definite success rate for better service. The psychological contract of earning its employee’s commitment is an unwritten understanding that takes SAS to new heights. The company continues to reward their work with unbelievable benefits, in order to keep their lives outside of working hours and family living significant.

This paper analyzes the reasons sales manager, Jim Reed, was unsuccessful in suitably motivating one of his top employees, Fred Maiorino, to remain a top employee at Schering-Plough. It will scrutinize Reed's role in contributing to Fred's sense of psychological contract breach—and eventually its violation. The paper will also look at the mishandling of employee appraisals and employee goals and discuss Reed's counterproductive leadership style, ending in the eventual de-motivation of Fred. This paper will also recommend different ways Reed could have gone about motivating and analyzing Fred when it came to employee reviews and performance, how goals were set and how Reed how have approached the situation in a different manner and how Reed
An employee's contract of employment is the foundation of their relationship with the organisation. These contractual rights may be more generous than the rights that the employee is given by employment legislation. For example, many employees are entitled under their contracts of employment to sick pay that is better than that laid down by statute.
Writing therapeutic contracts can be a frustrating task for novice therapist (Fisher, 2017). In graduate school therapists are trained to be caring, empathic, and most importantly provide a safe space for their clients. Although these things can be completed without any contradiction from a contract. Therapists must be mindful of what their contract encompasses. For example, one area that has always been an issue for therapists is fee setting (Fisher, 2017). A therapist would not want to terminate services with a client because the client cannot afford their services. The obvious solution to this problem is to lower their fees, if a therapist decided to lower their fees then the issue of self-worth arises (Fisher, 2017). Therapists who
Chapter 4 illustrated how mental disorders is viewed in this society; however, I grow up some of my youth in a society where mental illness is view as a witchcraft instead of a sickness. Ever since I can remembered, my late mother was an alcoholic. Growing up as a child whenever she decided to stop drinking, we have to take her to church or give her Valium to sleep because she will be hearing voices telling her to do things. As a young girl, I was always going to church with her; however, when we came to the United States it got worse. Whenever she decided to stop drinking, I will be the one to go buy her alcohol because we would not sleep at night if she does not drink. When I took abnormal psychology that is when I learned that my late mother
In this essay, I will discuss how something I learned in General Psychology has influenced my life. The topic I have learned that impacted my life the most is sexual orientations and how that can be applied to my life. The definition of sexual orientation is simply an erotic attraction, but the word has been heavily used by labeling people. Over the years, there have been many new sexual orientations emerging, and there may be more in the future. This topic has influenced the way I view myself and others, as well as understand the concept around sexual orientations.
Behavior/contingency/performance contracts a written agreement between on individual and another individual outlining specific behavioral goals such as academic, personal goals and so forth. There are five crucial components of behavior/contingency/performance contract (Miltenberger, 2015). Behavioral contracting is an intervention that is relatively simple to implement, and when constructed effectively, can successfully induce changes in the individuals behavior. Furthermore, behavior contracts work in light of the fact that there is a public commitment (Miltenberger, 2015). The behavioral contract is a form of antecedent manipulation. Additionally, the contractee asserts in writing that he or she will participate in a particular target behavior
Employee-Employer relationships are an increasingly complex and often misunderstood phenomenon. When an employer hires a new employee, he is not just bringing a new member of the workforce on board, he is also starting a new relationship, which involves elements such as respect, trust, mutual admiration etc. During recruitment, both parties in this emerging relationship hold many discussions which assist with the drafting of a formal employment contract. Some of the initial statements though, no matter how informal or imprecise, will be remembered by both parties as promises and give rise to certain expectations (Robinson & Rousseau, 1994). These expectations are often unwritten

* Scenario 2 – the productivity drive: Decrease in self-esteem of employees could have happened to a lesser degree, given that employees might have felt unfulfilled rather than cheated.
As a requirement for my career Psychology class I was assigned to interview someone in the field of psychology that I would love to go into. This was a perfect opportunity for me to learn some information about how the field is which is basically from a reliable source. I started the interview by primarily asking her what psychology field is all about. I used this to start the conversation and allowed
