Context for learning In this sun safety unit, it will require children to participate in different contexts to benefit their learning. These include: - Real Life engagements - Routines & transitions - Intentional teaching - Play Grouping The activities involved in this plan require children to work as an individual, pairs and as a whole class, however these activities are flexible and could be changed to suit different grouping. Connections This sun safety unit for kindergarten students is able to meet various standards and outcomes from Early childhood teaching policies. These include: the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG), the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Framework. Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (Queensland Studies Authority, 2010) Principles - Holistic learning: Children’s learning is holistic; that is, children learn and develop in interconnected ways. - Intentional teaching: Intentional teaching extends children’s thinking and builds deep understanding. Intentional teaching occurs in emergent and planned experiences. Learning and Development areas Wellbeing - A kindergarten child who has a strong sense of wellbeing: • explores ways to promote own and others’ health and safety Early Year Learning Framework OUTCOME 3: CHILDREN HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF WELLBEING (Australian Government Department of Education, 2009) - Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing. •
