This report is designed to evaluate the planning, building and operation of a new aircraft MRO facility in the UK, opening for business in during 2014. Helicopter Technical Services UK – known as HeliTECH - aims to be European market leader of rotary-winged aircraft maintenance, specialising in heavy maintenance of European built helicopter types, including the full range of Airbus Helicopter & AgustaWestland types.
Based at Newquay Cornwall Airport, HeliTECH is ideally located for the servicing of helicopters based both in the UK and Europe. With a start-up budget of £50 Million, HeliTECH will operate from a purpose built hangar with first class engineering facilities, with a team of highly qualified and passionate staff.
This report provides detailed insights to the various decisions taken by our consulate team, including why the rotary-winged aircraft sector was chosen, the selection of our home base at Newquay, risks overcome by the company, development plans for our hangar and the corporate marketing strategies.
The first task placed upon us was the gap analysis of the current market for helicopter MRO’s in the UK. According to – ADS Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and logistics (MRO&L) Strategy published in Jan 2011, the UK’s MRO&L sector makes up a third of the overall revenue in terms of the UK’s aerospace sector.
