During 8th grade at Howard D. McMillan Middle, I believed one person could make a difference if they just set their mind to do so. Our school had many restrictions and few student activities. Early that year I became interested in Student Government (S.G.) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), so I decided to run for President of both clubs hoping to make a change.
Welcome to the HII! My name is Laurie Medina and I’m a Student Assistant for the Software Engineering Team.
Before visiting CTC my future plans and goals were not clear. After visiting the CTC I had a road map of my future and I’m very excited for the years to come! The program at CTC that I’m interested in is health care cluster half day my junior year, and introduction to health careers half day my senior year. Ever since I was really little I have been around first responders, firefighters, EMTs, care takers, and nurses. Monday December 15, 2014 was the first time I ever got to meet my 6 month old nephew Brice. I had to drive to Hershey medical center and I knew he was in critical condition because he was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. On Thursday, December 14, 2017 at approximately 9:40am I, Officer Jaren Wren was conducting Supervision Sanction Program (SSP) pill call and observed that Resident Jessica Harris ACC# 714001 hair was braided. I asked Resident Harris who braided her hair she stated she did. I told Resident Harris to step out of line, remove a braid and redo it. Resident Harris began taking the braid down, but couldn't re-braid it. I then gave Resident Harris a direct order to remove the braids, and in a very aggressive tone she said, "No!" I then told Resident Harris to face the wall to be placed in restraints. She then said, "Bitch don't put your hands on me!" and began resisting at that time.

Being an active Greenport High School Interact Club member, I was selected to represent my school’s Interact Club. At the conference I had the joy of hearing Rotary leaders discuss the future of Rotary and amazing past successes. However, what really impacted me personally was meeting other Interact students from the island. Each student was a leader, basically everyone had stories of successful fundraiser or charities their Interact Club was involved with. Our Greenport Interact Club was very proactive already, but this conference shaped me into a more volunteer-minded person.Another great way the Rotary Conference let me practice being a leader was by giving me an opportunity to publicly talk about my school’s Interact Club and the fundraisers we had partaken

Becoming student council president at Warren Central High School has an impact on me as a high school senior. As student council president I not only serve as an ambassador for the school, but I am a leader as well. I proved to myself that I had what it takes to become an effective leader.
