Events that Took Place During WWII World War II, one of the most deadliest wars in U.S. history, was started by two sides, the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers. The Allied Powers was made up of the United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union while the Axis Powers was made up of Germany, Japan, and Italy. There were many significant reasons why the United States entered World War II. The events that led to the United States joining World War II were the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Holocaust, and the invasion of Poland. The events like the Holocaust and the invasion of Poland agitated the United States, but the attack on Pearl Harbor, greatly damaged the U.S. Navy Base at Pearl Harbor, currently Hawaii. The German- Soviet Pact was an agreement that stated the Soviet Union and Germany could exchange manufactured goods with each other and also the agreement stated that Germany could attack Poland without the Soviet Union helping. According to the website https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005156, it states that “An economic agreement, signed on August 19, 1939, provided that Germany would exchange manufactured goods for Soviet raw materials. The German-Soviet Pact enabled Germany to attack Poland on September 1, 1939, without fear of Soviet intervention.” There was another agreement that Germany and The Soviet Union signed, The Nazi- Soviet Pact. Signed on August 23, 1939, this agreement stated that the two countries wouldn’t attack each other for ten years. However, Germany didn’t follow by the rules that was provided by the agreement and they took advantage. Germany invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. Germany also signed the Directive 21 to attack the Soviet Union. As stated on the website https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005164, “Directive 21 (code-named Operation "Barbarossa"), the first operational order for the invasion of the Soviet Union.” The western economy reacted to what Germany did and didn’t follow the rules of the agreement.
