Everyone is affected by changes in technology, but some more than others. People who work in the medical field use technology every day, and if this technology isn’t up to date the physicians wouldn’t be helping the patients to the best of their ability. Patient service is a major part of the multitude of duties that take place in clinics. I have been working in the Urgent Care Pharmacy at the Clinic for almost two years and patient service and technology are a big part of my job. Customer service is emphasized in clinics because the physicians are there to serve the patients. I recently went to a meeting about customer service and it all seemed like common sense. Making sure that our system is working is very important because as stated in an article from Mayo Clinic, “Studies show that seven out of ten Americans take at least one prescription drug.” With 27% of American adults taking at least five drugs a week, the computer systems in the pharmacy need to be top-notch (Shader). During this past year, the computer systems, in Clinic I work in decided to not work. This lasted for about a week. We had to find ways to overcome this failure and get people their prescriptions. The normal wait time for prescriptions at Urgent Care is around twenty minutes, but when we ran into problems we couldn’t promise that same amount of time. Patients weren’t too happy about this, but we tried to assure them that we were working as fast as we could. This situation really tested our customer service. Getting this system not only tested our patient service, but also our capability to adapt to this new system and all the complications that came with it. However, if technology was flawless, there wouldn’t be a need for new improvements because everyone is satisfied. Some of the people I work with are still stressed out about this new system-even though we’ve had it for a while now- and they want to go back to the old system. Change can be hard, but
