Evidence-based practice benefits all participants of health and implements high quality care. Patients should find comfort in knowing the care they are receiving is the best available. Health facilities provide cost-appropriate care, using resources for effective interventions. Nurses implement practices in-line with the best evidence available. This quality of care involves critically evaluating whether practices are appropriate and applicable to care, and consistently seeking to improve and build upon care methods. Research plays a crucial role in implementing evidence-based practice. Nurses are responsible for knowing how to access research, judge its validity, incorporate it into clinical decision-making, and refine their own practice methods. This paper further explains how nurses utilize evidence-based practice to improve stroke care. With continuous research, evidence-based practice will evolve quality health care around the world.

It embodies clinical experiences, the patient, and supported research, to establish the most effective patient care (Brown, 2014). The best possible patient outcomes stem from staying current with changes in practice, and EBP communicates those changes through evidenced research. According to the Institute
Evidence-Base practice (EBP) is defined as: “based on problem identified from the practitioner’s area of practice; a combining of best evidence and professional expertise and an integration of this into current practice; about ensuring patients receive quality care, being part of quality improvement processes; about collaboration and requiring a team approach” (French, 1999). Scott and Mcsherry (2008) supported the French’s assertion, proposing the key elements of EBP are that it is a theory-driven process, which involves the use, evaluation and application of research; identification of best evidence; evaluation of care; problem solving; decision-making; clinical expertise; and requires patient involvement. Evidence-based practice is made of evidence, clinical expertise, patient preference, the context of care (Barker, 2013). In brief, evidence-based practice is the parameter in the nursing practice that it requires that the nurses gather and use clinical evidence to make decision for the patients so that in the nursing process they can deliver the quality of care for the patients (Ellis, 2013). Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) was initially a movement in medicine, dating back to early 20th century (Spring, 2007). It was described as a careful decision making process about the care of individual patients using best available evidence by Sackett, Rosenberg, Gary, Haynes, and Richardson (1996). Greenhalgh (2010) gave a similar definition but with more emphasis on the mathematical assessment of the potential benefit and harm. By now, EBP has been widely adopted by many health disciplines, including psychology. In 2005, the American

Evidence-based practice is relied on by professional nurses in order for them to make informed decisions as well as apply critical thinking skills directly to the patient care they provide. The research process allows the nurse to ask and answer questions systematically to ensure the decisions they make are based on sound science. Research provides the evidence needed for nurses to practice based off scientific evidence rather than by tradition (Houser, 2013). Nursing research is fundamental to the practice and is the central principle that defines the nursing profession.
Evidence-based practice is a form of critical thinking at that specific moment when you’re on the job in that specific situation. The first source that I found stated that evidence based practice combines the evidence found with what you know and joins them both to give proper healthcare (Evidence-Based Practice for Health Professionals 2014). The second source I found stated that evidence based practice which is used as EBP for short sometimes is a combination of your clinical knowledge, ethical standards for your patients, and the evidence used into making your final decision to take care of that patient (http://guides.mclibrary.duke.edu). For example, in an emergency a patient comes in the emergency room claiming that he has bad reflux.
