In my church’s charity event, I stand behind a microphone and a music stand. My ears hear clamorous noises. I am waiting for what seems like an eternity. To my left, I hear high-pitched vocal warm-ups. To my right I hear blasting and loud eruptions from the tuning of instruments that vibrate the stage. At a distance I hear low beats and piercing crashes, with occasional hums and heels of bass. Finally, it is time to start. I cough a little to prepare my voice. The whole ensemble sits in silence, observing and anticipating. I see the rhythm of the director’s hands moving in a beat to give us singers the tempo. All at once, an army of voices starts singing in harmony. On my left, I hear a perfect euphony of high-pitched and low-pitched singing. …show more content…
O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night, O holy night, O night divine!” When I open my mouth, I discovered that music was for me. Singing and music has followed me throughout my life. Not so soon after, I began to embark on an expedition of music.Music notes fascinate me in an artistic sense. While I perform songs, I also figure out how the arrangements of various music notes compose the song’s melody. To me, it’s not just singing something for the sake of singing. I feel a connection to my heart when the lyrics I perform are deep and personal. I feel dominant when I stand on the stage, facing a crowd, ready to give it my all. Singing for me it is not just a hobby, and not something I just do when I am bored. Singing a way to loosen up my heart, to stop stressing, and to just go with the flow. There is something so satisfying about singing my heart out when I have put in hours of practice. There is something so satisfying when I get something that was just separate verses until I decided to bring into a full song. I can choose to create a beautiful harmony or discordant tones. When I am singing, I am absorbed by the music. Singing is a chance for me to use my vocal chords and my rhythm to create something harmonic and pleasing to the
Knees weak from climbing a flight of stairs or the anticipation of meeting Brian, I walked into his office announcing my presence with a raspy, delayed voice. Upon flinging open the door, his face lifted of his desk and stared at me with a distant expression. My first take of Brian caught me off guard, with his apple red mohawk, wearing his branded castle racing jacket and pants. Looking at his appearance you just knew he was into racing. After building up the confidence to murmur good morning we left his office to his own personal race track he made at his house. “There is more to just sitting down on a vehicle and holding down the throttle. If it was that easy everyone would do it.” For Brian racing has come at a cost and has been through adversity on and off the track.
I was eight or seven, I lived in Gallup New Mexico at the time. One day in the summer my mother, cousin and I decided to visit our uncle Paul. He was an older man but very athletic he had his own home gym in his basement. When we got to his house he and my mother sat and had a grown-up conversation, me and my cousin Jerry decided to go explore the basement. In our uncle’s basement, he had four rooms. One had a huge pool table, another one was filled with weights and matts for yoga, the third one we never went into because the door was always locked. And the fourth, this fourth room would become my worst nightmare, it was filled with elliptical and treadmill equipment. After a while jerry and I got bored with playing our version of pool
Profile Essay. The main reason I chose to interview my uncle Ryan is that we grew up together. We became close friends on top of being family. It was extremely interesting hearing about his growth from our younger years.
I was born in Iran to Afghan parents who fled Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Iran is notorious for denying basic human rights to refugees and my family was no exception. Although I was born in Iran, I nor any other member of my family held a fraction of the rights granted to Iranian citizens. I recall the undercover police officers the Iranian government had who looked for Afghan refugees in order to force out of the country. My parents did not want us to continue to face the same problems and racist treatment so they went to the United Nations to seek refuge. After a year of grueling interviews, medical tests, and security checks, we were informed that Canada would take us in. Being only 11 years old, I remember feeling thrilled that we were going to a better place. Canada did not fail to disappoint as we were welcomed with warmth and treated with equality.
For many freshmen coming out of high school, declaring a major at Cosumnes River College is one of the most difficult things to do, because there are two education options. The two options are going to school to earn a certificate which often takes one to two years, and the second option is going to school to earn a degree which takes four to six years. One career that is an option at Cosumnes River College if you decided to go to school to earn a two-year certificate or a two-year Associates degree is the Cosumnes Rivers College Ford Asset automotive program.
I’m Noah Myers, a 17 year old homeschool senior and Running Start student at FVCC. This quarter I’m starting my journey to manhood with 11 general credits. Though I’m not confident in my career direction yet, I am confident that God will reveal his plan for me as I pursue classes while trusting Him to lead me. Years ago God gave my mom a verse which crazily fits my personality. Joshua 1:9 ”Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” I used to be a big worrier, well, I still am sometimes but the more I get to know God, the more convinced I am that He knows best and loves me completely. It’s all about trusting Him to be Master because
Most people that live in the modern generation view choral music as old, boring harmonies whose composers died with kings. However, choral music is not just for the elderly singing hymns apathetically in the church pews on Sunday morning. Though the perception of it remains unenthusiastic among common listeners, the life of choral music is not as dead or boring as most would assume. Choral music is made modern, enjoyable, and vibrant through the works of contemporary composers. Although it is not as recognized in modern generations, brilliant vocal compositions and composers still exist today.
A People’s History of the United States 1492 – Present by Howard Zinn takes a realistic viewpoint that is not seen in many textbooks, and that is exactly the point. Zinn writes about the dark sides of United States icons, which students are rarely taught about. Through historical examples, such as Christopher Columbus’ treatment of Native American Arawak Indians, Zinn supports his thesis. In Zinn’s book, he displays his displeasure with the way Americans are taught glorified history, as does another author, James Axtell, in his article, “Colonial America without the Indians: Counterfactual Reflections”, while in another article by Axtell, “The Moral Dimensions of 1492”, he states that although the truth should not be hidden, if stressed
Every individual is brought fourth into this diverse world, declaring this place as his or her home. Each individual, however, inherits from this world his or her own personal being, upon which their experiences, families, beliefs and passions are collected and shaped into this unique individual. We are constantly exposed to our surroundings, which are composed of various elements that influence our actions and motives. Through the presence of my parents, I was able to inherit more that just the common traits, but rather a passion for being active and constantly engaged in physical activity. My dad, a former collegiate wrestler, has always posed as an exceptional example of what it represents to be an athlete. I would listen and observe as he recounts his wrestling career and how he utilizes his successes to prompt himself to exercise & maintain superb health. I was captivated by his well-being and strength in addition to his joy that he received through partaking in exercise.
Children have a tendency to bring out the very best in people. I can say I have been fortunate to have four little blessings of my own. I consider each of them as a blessing and each day I am reminded of how much they mean to me. My children have brought out the best in me--parts that I never knew existed. As children grow, so do parents. I have evolved into a better person with the courage to overcome all obstacles because of the love that I have for my children.
July 22nd, 2008 is when my obsession started, it was my father's birthday, every year on his birthday, we make it into a huge party that year. There was a surprise that my mother put gathered she had two dancers, Darla and Darlene. Both came out with vibrant bright colors that would ____ . When the music started the skirt movement, the way it swirled, the way it waved at you. They danced 2 songs, but those two songs stunned me. That day on I knew I wanted to become a Folklorico dancer.
For my autobiographical exploration I chose to focus on religion, sexuality, ability/disability, and race. Religion would have to be the most influential of all the identity sources. My grandfather has been a pastor for majority of my life, and religion as always been a part of who I am. When I was younger going to church was routine. I never understood why I had to attend church, but it was required so I went.

My dad always says, “bravery is being afraid and doing it anyway.” Until the age of 15, I had never stepped into a school, until one day, I gathered my courage and began my academic journey. I was homeschooled for most of my young life. While I studied the standard subjects, I was able to learn in an environment completely free and focused on me. It was an amazing and unique way to grow up, but it was also a bubble. I was unaware of much of the world around me, and as someone who was, at the time, quite shy, never really explored. I spent the first semester of highschool in an online program, but I did not like it and decided to transfer. I knew nothing about public school, and starting a new school half way through the year was a huge risk. I knew it was going to be difficult and scary, but I also knew it would help me grow as a person.
Before I was born, my father had been looked up upon his family, he aimed to be the best so he decided to leave Pakistan and start a new life in America and bring his family along. Money was limited to him and for 10 years he had worked non-stop just to form a living and also to bring his brother to Texas. My dad would not stop hustling even after he was able to bring his brother to Texas both of them had worked till they were able to bring the whole family from Pakistan. The following years he was able to open his first dry cleaning business and even after he still had plans on opening extra businesses. I was born in 1997 and that same year he had closed his dry cleaning business to pursue his dream of being an international entrepreneur in the used clothing business.
