The day center provides a safe warm place for the homeless and those with mental illnesses. They provide a stigma free welcoming environment were those feel welcome to come and interact with peers. The organization also has specific workers that help with finding shelter, apartments, and jobs. They also have a community closet for clothing that is open every Tuesday and Thursday. You must be 18 years old, be drug free while on premises, and follow basic rules to come to the Denver House.

First, we will examine my initial clinical note on 8/15/16 with client, Rhonda Smith, session one. During this first session, I collected Rhonda’s demographic and intake information (Murphy & Dillon, 2015; Reamer, 2001). This included a signed consent for treatment, which we reviewed and all her questions were answered, as well as signed medical releases for previous therapy and agency records, i.e., DVIS, CPS, CASA, that will be requested (Murphy & Dillon, 2015; Reamer, 2001). Additionally, she was informed about HIPAA, patient privacy rights, billing practices, professional boundaries and expectations, and how to contact me during business hours, and after-hours crisis lines, and on-call assistance phone numbers for resources if it is outside of my business hours (Murphy & Dillon, 2015).
I completely agree with your perceptions on the neglect and abuse presented in the Willowbrook State School video and the Serbian Mental Hospitals video. Although I do think mental health care has come a long way in the relatively short time since these films were originally released, I personally believe that we still have a long way to go in terms of ethical practice of both medical and mental healthcare in the United States. Just as recently as 2016, for example, eight different psychiatric research studies were terminated at New York University because of numerous ethical violations. These violations ranged anywhere from falsifying patient records and maintaining inaccurate case histories up to lax oversight of subjects and
In 2010, my cousin went on a hiking trip with her Residential Treatment Center (RTC). On that trip, she collapsed and wasn’t taken to the hospital until a couple weeks later. By that time, we found out that her body was overheated, which caused her to collapse and she was slowly becoming brain dead. She passed away three days after her seventeenth birthday, which would have made it year before she could come back to our family. If only the RTC staff was able to get her to a hospital soon enough, she would have been able to share memories with our family would be able to have a relationship with my cousin. There is an issue with the RTC’s that need to be handled. RTC’s “provide intensive help for youth with serious emotional and behavior problems (Residential)”. There needs to be better communication with the citizens, more drop-ins in the centers and a more thorough application process for the staff at the Residential Treatment Centers in order to give these foster children the care and attention they need.

Currently there is no training in place to assist healthcare professional in learning more about mental illness and working with mental ill patients. However, during instruction student are provided with basic information regarding working with patients with mental health issues. Implementation of a new curriculum with have a few barriers as time and content level will be an issue. Prior caregivers may be reluctant to learning more about mental health patients as they may have develop preconceived ideas about this grown population. Students are not giving enough information during current training to meet the needs of the mental health population, however barriers may exist as stakeholders may be reluctant to extend program completion time.
Chicago Institute for the Mentally Ill as a nonprofit making organization has well set mission statement for future planning and success. The mission of Chicago Institute for the mentally ill is improving the lives of the mentally ill individuals by sustaining and pioneering comprehensive mental health and other substance abuse related services. It is with no doubt that the existing need of adequate staffing and working environment should be solved to facilitate goal achievement (Lee and Stauber, 2014). The success strongly relies on strategic approach including setting of smart goals and objectives. This will play a role in providing solutions to the sole needs of the organization. The paper is an essay that serves to address
Mental institutions are failing all over the country because of the government. These institutions are having financial cuts because they are known to be “too expensive”. And, because these programs are failing the only solution for the mentally ill are the community based health care centers. The government should reevaluate what they spending money on because this is one of many huge factors in the United States causing homelessness.
Most of those admitted to state psychiatric hospitals come from the Criminal Justice System. There is currently a shortage of beds and staff in psychiatric hospitals, causing serious problems. Severely mentally ill people charged with crimes are being sent to jail instead of getting the treatment they need, and employees are getting injured. Funding should be increased for the state mental health facilities so that these issues can be fixed.
