Speaker: I became nationally board certified in 2004 and then have since renewed by certificate in 2014 and I firmly believe it is the one professional development experience in which I grew more professionally than any other, including, my college experience and getting degree and those kinds of things, because it is such a reflective experience and you reflex on your practice. I remember someone telling me that I had a practice and I thought; only doctors have practices. It helps you, that whole idea of being a professional and it helps you to feel that professionalism as you are going through that process. I love being a reflective practitioner. That is one of my favorite terms, because it talks about the fact that you do reflect and
In life, ones fate is already set. The choices one makes influence everything else in their life. Often, fate throws unexpected situations at you and one must learn how to interpret the reasoning behind it. Many believers in fate think for every bad situation that occurs a positive one will follow. Fate is something that you can’t control. All actions whether they may be in the past, present, or future occur because they are meant to. Everything happens for a reason, and everyone handles situations differently.
Reflective practices helps you to reflect on a regular basis and be able to discuss your plans and ideas with other colleagues, This will help you identify areas of strength and help to discover those who may need further help with their development .
Keloidal scars are over active tissues that heal over the place of a skin injury. They usually appear as lumps over scar tissue, this can occur after the healing of skin injuries or scars. Keloids expand in outward growths over your skin, they have a needle-like pain or to itch to them, although the degree of pain varies from each person (Wiki). If a keloid becomes infected they can develop sores on the skin where the injury had accrued. Though they occur at the site of an injury, they can also randomly rise up in places. They can also appear due to a piercing, pimple or scratch along the skin. As well as a result of severe acne or chickenpox scarring, repeated trauma, excessive skin tension during wound closure or a foreign body in a wound,
Starting my journey through college again was a big decision for me. Being a single parent of two children, a homeowner, and holding a stressful, full-time job left me with little free time. However, I longed to reinvent myself and find a way to advance my career. Meeting personal goals to further my education outweighed the guilt I felt, as my children were not young any longer. I decided to make advancing my education a top priority. Discovering that when I have a goal my follow through is definite, but it is not always easy. What I overlooked as I headed down the path to fulfill my educational goal, was that stress has real health consequences.
A load of research has been done on learning and reflective practice and its effectiveness on the practitioners and one of the first people to research reflective Practice was Donald Schon in his book “The Reflective Practitioner” in 1983. Schon was an influential writer on reflection and had two main ways of identifying reflection and they were reflection in action and reflection on action.
As we creep into a more modern civilization, women’s role in society is rightfully evolving. No longer are women known as solely housekeepers, but are recognized as the intellectual and powerful beings they truly are. In Susan Glaspell’s short story “Trifles”, it is inherently clear that women are to be seen and not heard, which is not uncommon for the timeframe in which it was written. The women in the story “Trifles” are subject to male inferiority, psychological damage, and are considered as second class citizens.
“Death starts from the feet.” She was an 86 year old Guinean woman who was accompanied by her son to the family medicine clinic. Her son explained to us that his mother was very anxious and feared that she would be dying soon because of the pains that she was having in her lower extremities. In their culture, there is a saying that “death starts from the feet,” and because she was experiencing these pains she was convinced that her time was near. After obtaining a more detailed history and completing her physical examination, I discovered that the patient had bilateral crepitus in her knees as well as joint swellings, indicating an osteoarthritic presentation. What my patient feared to be symptoms of death were instead osteoarthritic pain! This patient encounter was an eye opening experience on just how impactful our backgrounds can be in medicine. By improving our cultural competences we improve the quality of healthcare. As a family physician I hope to make a difference in the lives and communities of patients from various backgrounds.
Reflective practice is a method in which a person critically analyzes and evaluates his actions and reactions and tries to improve his performance.
Reflective practices are beneficial. In this class, having the chance to reflect on the draft assignment, in conjunction with having Errol’s comments, allowed me to critically think about my writing skills. The professor comments pointed out my writing and grammar flaws. In turn, the professor’s comments helped me to see what I was doing wrong as well as right, when it came to my writing skills and the assignment. Having the chance to reflect on my mistakes, in combination of having Errol’s comments and instructions, I believed assisted my writing. Therefore, from reflection, I am 1) learning from my mistakes and 2) developing a better understanding of the things that I do
Reflective practice is the process of thinking about and critically analysing your actions with the goal of changing and improving occupational practice.
Professional knowledge is no longer viewed as just consisting of a standardised, explicit and fixed knowledge base. It is now seen as knowledge which exists in use, is ethical in its use and is changed by experience.
There is no single right approach to the complex practices of teaching and learning (Loughran, 1996). It is commonly accepted that no educational program is totally applicable or can prepare teachers. Consequently, teachers need reflective practice to efficiently cope with the fast world changes (Grant & Zeichner, 1984). Adopting Socrates’ famous saying that “the unexamined life isn’t worth living”, I do believe in reflective practice as being essential to effective teaching and learning. In my opinion, active reflective practitioners are those who are intellectually curious and emotionally enthusiastic about improving their work using moral, ethical, and responsible actions based on critical analysis and evaluation of experiences as a way
Reflective practice enables you to develop your skills, increase your knowledge and deal with emotionally challenging situations. Developing your reflective practice early on will pay dividends on everything you undertake as well as building a strong foundation for a successful career.
This self-reflection will incorporate the 4R’s model of reflective thinking in order for my reflections to be properly structured. The overall group project was a good experience for me, and provided me a great opportunity to work with people from different cultures. Although these people were from different cultures, I knew each group member before this assignment and had worked with the majority of them previously. Therefore, I respected all the group member’s and the skills, strengths and weaknesses they brought to our group. Because of my established relationship with all members, I felt that I was able to be honest in my assessment of their work without being perceived as bossy or creating conflict. The aim for all of us was to do very well in this assignment, so our group established a clear idea of outcomes and quality of work.
