Hi Olivia, I really like your point on an outsider being open minded when they learn about a new religion. Some outsiders might have judgements already made by a certain religion that comes from the media or what they hear from other people. Those sources are not exactly the best way to learn about a new religion. I also believe an outsider should be humble and not act like their views or culture are superior. Most people, often get religion and culture mixed up. Two countries could have the same primary religion but totally different cultures. Acting superior creates unneeded friction between the outsider and the religion they are trying to learn about. A person could be religious in one faith and constantly be attacking another faith or bragging
Humans are very abnormal creatures. We are in a day and age where it is acceptable to become so consumed by work and other activities, that we sometimes deny ourselves of one of the most necessary functions. That function is sleep and it is a very vital component that us humans love to neglect ourselves of.
I have been to several Christian churches, a Catholic church, and a mosque; it is safe to say that each experience was completely different. Through these experiences, I have learned some or most of the practices for each religion, and learning more about these religions gave me a better understanding of each of them. Being involved in learning about these religions, I am more of an accepting person and always involved to learn more to broaden my knowledge. Granted I have not been a part of learning a newer religion, unless Scientology counts as a religion. Although I have never attended their own church, I did learn some information; otherwise, I haven't explored any other religions other than when I was
I imagine that she didn’t use the word ‘outsider’ because we all might see an outsider differently. I feel that there are two different ways you can see an outsider. You can see them as the not very popular, quiet one like Jonny was. They can also be recognize as the person that is pretty well known, but no one completely understands and they feel like an outsider, like Pony .An outsider is someone who is different than everyone else. Someone who looks, thinks,or likes something different then the people around them.
Everybody has their own things that they like. It is also true that everybody has their own opinion. One of my favorite things to do is be outside. It is always a good time when you are outside and it is easy to be yourself. You don't have people hovering over you just waiting for you to slip up of do something they don't like. One of the many things I love about being outside is seeing animals in their natural habitat. It gives you a sense of peace. It makes you feel fresh and then you take a deep breath in and smell the clean, serene air and it makes it all worth it. It is almost like a safe haven for me. That is another thing I like about being outside, hunting. I know to some people hunting sounds cruel and gross but chances are the animal
Evoke is to ask a deity, spirit or entity to join you in your space or in a space you have made for it. There is some argument as to whether evoking should be done in the circle or outside for safety reasons. Evoking is done as part of a ritual in faiths such as Wicca, Shamanism, and Paganism. The most well-known form of evocations is the calling the quarters.
Mumbling under your breath and your subtle cues of passive aggressiveness about how you already know everything and that this is a waste of time is the second mistake your making. Embrace everything, embrace school, embrace knowledge and embrace opportunity know matter how small it may be. The true hustler knows that that the hustle ever stops, not for a second.
Many men would like to have ANAL SEX with their women, but they see 'back door action' as something that women don't like.
Imagine a man, working in the shadows, pretending to be someone he is not. Imagine him excluding himself away from his family, months at a time, with hardly any contact with his loved ones. The man puts his life and the life of his family on the line every day and for what? To help find out secret information putting a handful of criminals in jail? And the criminals probably would not stay in jail for a long time either, but this is the life of a “UC”, people who work undercover. You might think undercover work is all peaches and creme, but undercover work might not be worth the time or effort. This essay will discuss the reasons for undercover work, its worth, and the qualities of an undercover agent will need to survive. This essay will also discuss the undercover work William Queen wrote about in his book “Under and Alone,” and
From our observations, we have found out that “Elsewhere” is a developing country and is needier for goods and services than “Somewhere” which is a developed country and is not as needy as “Elsewhere”. We think “Elsewhere” is a developing country because it has more of an increasing population, than “Somewhere” which has a declining population but is roughly evenly distributed throughout all the age groups. We get to observe how the age group of people 10-19 have a total population in “Elsewhere”, that is way larger than the age 10-19 population for “Somewhere”. The cause of this could be, “Elsewhere” looks like the data was composed 10 years after a baby boom in the late 90’s, because of how greatly the population had bumped up in the 10-19 age group. “Elsewhere’s” total population for the elderly (80+) is
Numerous theories exist today about the first peoples’ origins and how they reached the Americas. In fact, this topic is still debated by anthropologists due to all the evidence that has been found to support each theory. There are three theories that claim natives took either the Land, Pacific or the Atlantic route. Personally, I believe the first peoples took the land route.
In addition, being willing to listen to the other individuals' beliefs is helpful as well as being respectful. For example, if he or she practices Hinduism finding out their particular school (there are six: Sankhya, Vaisheshika, Nyaya, Mimamsa, Yoga and Vedantas similar to different domination). In general, Hinduism can be confusing as there are millions of gods. Knowing what they value is beneficial, for example, tradition and family are greatly valued in Hinduism. A Christian might encounter an abundance of barriers a Christian when introducing a Hundi to Jesus. First, forgiveness is not a component of Hinduism. Furthermore, salvation is not a free gift for them. These can be difficult concepts for them to understand because it is the opposite of what they have been taught. Hinduism teaches the law of Karma which can be explained also as cause and effect (Halverson). Being born again in Hinduism refers to reincarnation, while as a Christian this means to be made new by Christ (Halverson). God is personal. On the other hand, their gods are impersonal. “Some Hindus have difficulty understanding the significance of Christ crucifixion because their conviction that one must act nonviolently towards all like, which is the Hindu doctrine of ahimsa” (Halverson). Knowing the seminaries and the difference between being a Christian and Hinduism helps one to develop a productive conversation. In addition, there are cultural barriers. An individual who practices Hinduism might view changing religions as rejecting their culture or rejecting their family. These are a few examples of barriers one might encounter. The biggest challenge that I would personally encounter while presenting the Gospel to a Hindu would be having enough knowledge about Hinduism. In general, I find it difficult to understand other religions. While researching Hinduism I learned a lot, but all the gods, traditions, and
Many people are unaware of the various religions that exist in our world. One religion that I was uneducated about was Jainism. There are multiple approaches someone may take when studying a religion, such as lived, historical, and theological. A lived approach differs from a historical approach because it is a combination of approaches. A historical approach, also known as world religions, is known as the “outsider approach.”
The cultural turn in sociology, methodologically, has provided new ways of utilizing qualitative analysis to show how views and practices are indicators of the ways that personal worldviews are shaped by social structures. Qualitative interviewing, especially using vignettes, hypothetical scenarios, memory probes, and comparisons, allow the interviewer to measure the respondent’s understanding of the world as it is refracted through life experiences, values, beliefs, and attitudes. For example, Swidler (2001) used in-depth interviews to show how people draw from different cultural understandings of “love” in response to different situations. Similarly, Lamont (1992) compared interviews of American and French upper-middle class individuals to
In order to avoid sexual assault, a perpetrator individual has to overcome his aggression before it will be too late. By overcoming his aggression, he should avoid the adrenaline rush that is forcing him to do unpleasant implements to the victim rather go run a mile, talk to a therapist, and step into the victim’s shoes of understanding her pain and suffer. Also, a perpetrator can experience particular characteristic behavior, that will force him to chase away from being a sexual assault by writing down his emotions on a piece of paper. In the hope that a perpetrator can save himself, is to have school educate them by giving a knowledge of sexual assault crimes at a young
During the course of this class, I have learned a lot about different religions. I still have an unprejudiced view of religion. However, I did not suspend my belief to have an understanding of religion. I have been able to learn of other religious beliefs without feeling threatened of my own. I found there are many different practices in other religions, some I agree with and some I do not agree with. I have come to except others, ways of worship without getting upset. I have become humble in my conclusion now that I have a better understanding of others beliefs. The world seems to jump to conclusions and be judgmental about other religions. Postponing ones judgement on a religion is a difficult thing to do. Being raised and taught a certain religion and set of beliefs is distilled in to one’s mind. I, on the other hand, reserved my personal judgement until I have learned more about it.
