A time in my life when I had to collaborate with others was my junior season of basketball when we made a run to the regional finals. We didn't have a lot of talented players compared to our competition, but we worked hard all season and came together when it mattered. The biggest game was against #1 Iron Mountain for districts where we were huge underdogs. However, we played like a team whereas Iron Mountain tried to use individual talent and it cost them. This was a prime example of how collaboration was able to do more than working alone, and the season as a whole taught me how valuable teamwork can be. Another example of collaboration is in my pre-engineering and robotics class. We work in small groups and have to work together in order
Collaboration is when a student contributes to a group’s joint intellectual efforts through work ethic, leadership, and service. The artifacts I’ve chosen will come from my Honors English class and my Physical Science class. The artifact from my Physical Science class a video/ rubric from an in class bottle rocket competition that I participated in along with my friend Jacob in October 2015. The artifact from my English class is a rubric from a book club project completed in January of 2016. The purpose of the bottle rocket project was to display our understanding of velocity, and determine what factor could keep the rocket in the air the longest. The purpose of the book club project was to display our critical thinking skills and effectively
Teamwork is one of the greatest skills I’ve learned here at WWTC, I have learned to trust others as well as myself, I have learned to depend on others as well as allow others to depend on me.
Throughout my academic career, most of the courses I’ve taken were self-disciplined and few projects I was involved with involved teamwork and collaboration. Despite this, my classmates and I would always have group study sessions to do homework and to study the night before a big test. My best examples of collaboration are from my experience while playing varsity basketball.
I interact with the mobile dental van. This van goes within the community to help the underserved population that lack access to care for various reasons. As far as the Dobbs Ferry Campus van come to campus and serve a huge population of children, who otherwise may not receive the appropriate care that is needed. They are referred out to specialties if needed. They provide care to the limited secured detention’s youth who are locked down and is not allow to roam free on campus. They provide care to the foster children that are followed by the clinic in the Bronx. It is a way to meet and provide care for the target population within their community. I also deal with the Family Assistance Program that houses
I like how you had stated that you had a negative understanding collaboration back when you were in school. I can agree, that I had similar negative experiences with collaboration and force collaborations felt like the group was paddling Upstream; although, the tasks were completed the effort that was needed it was exhausting. I found collaboration that is not forced and with individuals passionate about an end goals, seem to run smoothly, are fun and flow.
People can motivate you to get started or keep you motivated to write. It can be an effective tool when writing because you can get frustrated with yourself or not know where to go with an idea. Not only does it help create ideas, collaborative learning teaches you real world skills. These skills include how to properly communicate with others and teach you how to work with people you don’t necessarily get along with. Most likely your future will involve working with others in some form or another. Ms. Olson agrees, saying, “Yes, every student needs to be able to work well together with others and I think working together in a classroom is the closest experience to the real world job collaboration you will get while in school.” Researchers have looked at the benefits of collaboration and the ways it can help you. In the study the researchers discovered or identified two important benefits of collaborative learning. Xiao Han T. Zeng, the research scientist, shares with us that “Collaboration plays an increasingly important role in promoting research productivity and impact” (Zeng par. 1). These are just two of the identified benefits of collaborative learning.
Society has been evolving as of late. Individual work is no longer encouraged and has been labeled “out of fashion” (14). Environments like school, work, and religious institutions have been implementing teamwork as of late. The idea is that teamwork allows the transfer of ideas from person to person, but at the same time allowing
I approach collaboration as a team player, and I believe students need more than one person to guide them to their full educational potential. Also, active and prepared participation of weekly PLC meetings with the teachers of my special education students to plan collaborative curriculum have increased results in math and reading substantially. Participating in co-teaching furthers my repertoire of knowledge to assist my students. I have learned a vast amount from sharing and consulting with colleagues regarding students, observing mentoring teachers, and planning activities to ensure growth in students.
When Working well with others and making sure everyone stays on task shows collaboration. I've learned collaboration while being on a basketball team i had to work with other on the court to get the play to go in motion. When playing sports for me you have to collaborate with others to make sure you get to the goal to score a shot. One time the play unfolded in a basketball game and i examined where everyone was and i moved to a spot where i had an open shot and i signaled for the ball and took the shot. Collaboration is good for being a Physical Therapist because Shows that of they need something done they can ask for help and they will know that the pressure isn't just on them but they have others to fall on if needed. You can also count
Google defines collaboration as “The action of working with someone to produce or create something.” Collaboration consists of leadership, teamwork, and effective-listening, qualities which I confidently believe I can contribute to the MSU community. My first semester of college, I joined a Relay for Life committee where we had weekly decisions about how to improve the lives of those people who have cancer. Relay for Life is a community based event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. As a team, we listened to one another’s comments and engaged in conversation. Working endlessly for hours, and understanding all opinions, we provided an amazing event for those fighting cancer and those helping to fight. The idea of collaboration between
Collaboration is very important in this process. Setting goals requires that a client be truthful about their strengths and weakness. Sometimes we feel we are strong in some areas when in fact we are not. This is why it is important that the case manager establish a relationship with the client to asked questions to determine their strengths and weakness. The client will be more open to discuss their needs and the case managers will be able to guide the client into listing his or her goals that are achievable. Collaboration is also important when writing the objectives, because the case manager will have to be included in the plan.
The biggest example would be my Inquiry Project. My group and I struggled throughout the year to come up with a project and a final presentation idea. Throughout the entire time, I ensured that I shared my ideas professionally, in the hopes that we could eventually figure it out together. I think that this ties into peer collaboration, since we then had to effectively work together in a group in order to gather signals, research, and come up with a final project. One of the first things that my group and I did, in response to advice from Adina, was discuss our individual strengths and weaknesses. Then, throughout the year, we would constantly identify our group strengths and weaknesses, and work on improving our weaknesses, while also using our strengths for our final presentation.
The two words most often used, ”cooperative and collaboration,” can easily be both applicable to the United States of America and other countries today, and are still often used to describe contract negotiations for the United States of America as well as other countries. (Barnardin & Russell, 2013).
On the other hand, collaboration is not useful when a quick resolution is needed due to the time involved. Problems are solved only when everyone has the same goal in mind and works as a team to achieve the goal. As a result, both leaders and coworkers win. In order for the collaborative style to be effective, individuals must be willing
Collaboration: In a community of learners, students work together in teams, partners, or groups. This allows students to gain social skills and increases students’ motivation for the project. Students share ideas and gain a new understanding of the content.
