Percy’s relationship with his mother is decent. Percy still knows his mother is hiding stuff from him. The author states “I’m sorry Percy,” she said seeing the look in my eyes. “But I can’t talk about it.” This proves that she is hiding stuff because it says “But I can’t talk about it.” Percy’s relationship with his real father is kinda bad. Percy got mad or upset with him a few times. An example is “Why would my dad- who hadn’t even stayed long enough to see me born- talk to my mom about putting Percy in a summer camp.” This shows that he was mad because Percy’s father was talking to his mom about a summer camp and his dad wasn’t even there when he was born. Percy’s relationship with Gabe is bad. Percy took his mom’s side on everything.
Throughout the novel, Percy Jackson is a known trouble-maker, sent to a school for troubled kids, called “Yancy Academy’. He is out casted from classmates and sees very unusual things during his time at Yancy Academy. His teacher Mr. Brunner and his friend Grover act very unusual after Percy spies on them during the night. During Percy’s summer his father
He also faces Ares who also attempts to kill him. The real reason they went to the underworld was to rescue Percy's mom from Hades as he was holding her hostage and to retrieve the Lightning Bolt for Zeus. Throughout this journey Percy realizes that he is not an outcast and that he fits in and he realizes his father does care for him. Percy also realizes that he has a place at Camp Half Blood
One of the fights Percy got into was with Nancy, who picked on him. After he was caught in the fight by Ms. Dodds, Percy then got into a big fight with Ms. Dodds directly. During this fight, Percy
Evidently, he grows to be a man of the traits that make a perfect example of a spoiled brat. In most senses, he is the polar opposite of Dunstan, he is extroverted, he has a one-dimensional way of looking at situations, and he is obsessed with the idea of being royalty. Percy knows exactly what he wants, and does not hesitate to defeat anyone in his way to obtain what he desires. Percy can be described as a man of little to no emotion even after recreating himself as the man known as Boy Staunton. Ramsay discovers “Boy Staunton had reached a point in life where he no longer tried to conceal his naked wish to dominate everybody and was angry and ugly when things went against him”(Davies, 232). This shows that Percy is slightly obsessed with power. Percy has an extreme desire to live like royalty, even forcing his wife Leola to learn and act the way that rich people do, forcing her into depression. As a result of both his desire and coming from a rich family, Percy becomes an entitled megalomaniac. This can also be described as the role of the egotist, an archetype that comes with many negative connotations, mainly being self-absorbed. The archetype affects Percy in such a way that he is a perfect example of any trait of the egotist. He is somewhat intelligent, self-centered, emotionally deprived, a know it all and lacks interest in other’s opinions. Percy
which is the prime mover in the action of the novel which force's Percy to allow
Another piece of evidence that Percy is an outsider is that he has a D+ grade average on his report card. Also he is a dyslexic and a hyperactive boy. For example, “I wondered how she could say that. What was so great about me? A dyslexic, hyperactive boy with
(Riordan 73). This is an example of Sally and Gabe being total opposites, at least from Percy’s perspective. Percy states mother is the best woman in the world, and also very beautiful and nice. He says she has never raised her voice or said a bad word to anybody, which is a good trait and shows a good mother. However, Percy
said Percy.” “ I am glad you got your mom back in your life. I bet it was a scary thing to do- Percy. I bet that you were scared that you wouldn’t get to see your mom again, you probably thought your mom was dead until Hades popped up in the fire and I quote “ Percy Jackson where is the lighting bolt, I have your mom Percy she is not dead.”
In the beginning of the book. Percy believes that all he is, is a kid who loves his mother, has ADHD and dyslexia, and is not able to stay in the same boarding school for more than a year without being expelled. This is shown on page 10, where the narrator says, “..this was my sixth school in six years, and (I) was probably going to be kicked out again.” This quote shows that Percy does not have much confidence, and is expelled from school a lot. Also towards the beginning of the book, on page 44, Percy begins to recall multiple instances where “something creepy” had happened in a school, before he got expelled. Percy is beginning to understand that he is different, in a special way. In the middle of the book, Percy is introduced to new beliefs, a change in character, and he starts to develop a new attitude. He learns that he is a half-blood, which explains why he has ADHD and dyslexia, and also explains why he had to transfer schools so frequently. This is shown on page 93. Annabeth, Percy’s new half-blood friend, explains to Percy that most half-bloods move from school to school constantly, and are diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. Percy began to finally realize that he wasn’t just some strange kid, who had problems with reading and staying still. He was a half-blood, and there were tons of other kids just like him. He was more confident, brave, and more willing to take risks.
Percy, on the other hand wants to find the lightning bolt to save his mother from death.
Also Percy and Thalia received a few problems of their own. During a game of capture the flag between the half bloods and the hunters Thalia and Percy had a misunderstanding. During the game Thalia and five others from halfblood team went out to capture the flag and Percy got put on defence. From their Percy decided because there were no one attacking happening so he went out for the attack. But little did Percy know the hunters were just in the coast of the forest which is right by their flag. So the hunters were able to ctf because Percy left and Thalia got mad because Thalia and her group of half bloods were about to cross the line. The passage states “‘Percy what are you doing me and my squad were about to strike and capture the flag, and now because of you we lost the game”(Page 156 ) This evidence shows that Percy and Thalia were having problems which was unintentional a good thing because later in the book because they realized they are best friends. The passage states “Thalia, Percy that’s enough you both just had a little misunderstanding”’ scolded zoe“(Page 157) This evidence shows Percy and Thalia realized that they were overreacting and that they both had good intentions.
that Greek gods exist, and have been closely observing western culture and ideas. The author draws parallels to Percy’s life, who is an American teenager, with that of Greek heroes. This parallel helps the readers to relate to the book, essentially engaging the young readers to learn about Greek mythology and the lessons of life that it teaches, in a not so bland way. The protagonist of the novel, Percy Jackson, is revealed to be special in some way. This section also develops other supporting characters, such as Chiron, Percy’s teacher, who also was mentor to Hercules and Grover, who is Percy’s sidekick, a multi-dimensional character with his own past, hopes and concerns. The association of Chiron and Percy foretells that Percy will carry on heroic deeds in future. Percy fights Minotaur, a monster that even Theseus fought and defeated. In the process of defeating Minotaur, Percy loses his mother, which he feels was his last hope to returning to his normal human life. By drawing parallels between Percy and various heroes of Greek Mythology, the author shows Percy in the light of a hero. A hero who is yet to prove his worth in the Camp Half-Blood. His encounter with Clarisse at a bathroom in camp, allows him to show his strength, which was very similar to that of his father Poseidon, but also instils in some ways fear amongst the camp
Percy wakes up at a place called camp half-blood. Camp half-blood is created by magical borders in order to protect demigods so they can continue to train while being safe. After entering camp half-blood Percy learns about his identity of being a demigod. A demigod is child from a human and Greek god parent. He learns that he’s the son of one the three major Gods, Poseidon. Also, that his mother is very much alive but is kidnapped by Hades one of the three major Gods as well. Percy then goes into training and utilizes his dragon to be a positive trait that helps him settle into his new life. As his dyslexia functions for mythology and his ADHD helps him keep moving in
In the book Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Percy is your typical 12-year-old boy who is a troublemaker in school and lives with his mother’s abusive husband. Percy’s life changes when he accused of stealing Zeus’ master bolt and attacked by monsters. Percy’s mother is killed along the way towards a camp called Camp Half-Blood and trains his heritage as a demigod. Percy is then sent on a heroic quest, with friends, to prove his innocence and along the way, rescue his mother from Hades. After a long and arduous journey of being chased by monsters, Percy managed to return the lightning bolt and save his mother. Percy is then betrayed by a close friend, as the friend was the thief, and escaped while warning them of the true mastermind.
Percy Jackson’s mum in the story is called Sally Jackson who was in a relationship with Poseidon, who left her to go on a journey across the Atlantic Ocean, and he never came back. Sally is now married to Gabe who wasn’t very nice, smelt and didn’t really care about Percy, but Sally may have married Gabe to protect Percy, because the smell may keep the monsters and bad away from him. We also get the feeling off Gabe that he doesn’t want Percy around (Riordan, 2005, p.32) ‘During school months, it was Gabe’s ‘study’. He didn’t study anything in there other than old car magazines, but he loved shoving my stuff in the closet, leaving his muddy boots on the windowsill.’ and would be happy to see him go, which is the same in the story of Perseus, where Polydectes tries to get rid of Perseus, because he doesn’t want Polydectes to be with Danae. Percy not liking Gabe could be part of a retelling of the story of Perseus. Where Zeus is portrayed as Gabe, and Danae is Sally, and Zeus sends Danae and her baby (Percy Jackson) to an island beach where a fisherman found them, took them home with him and looked after them. Where as in the Percy Jackson story, Sally takes Percy on a break to the beach (Long Island), much against Gabe’s wishes, and instead of a fisherman finding them; it was Grover who came to help them. The change to the myth story is because Riordan believes that this is the way this situation would be portrayed in a
