Harriet Tubman, an escaped slave herself, was known for her role in the rescuing of hundreds of slaves who were on the run. “In the decade before the American Civil War, Tubman guided to freedom about 300 slaves without ever losing a slave through capture.” (Thackeray 82) Harriet Tubman was so devoted to destroying the slave system which encompassed her family and friends lives, she eventually ended up helping in the Civil War. In order to help in the Union army, Harriet Tubman “alternated roles as nurse and scout, cook and spy” (Larson 18).

Harriet Tubman was an overachiever and even though she didn't have that much she still did the things she could do and that's what also make her so inspirational because her father was gone at a young age and her mother and had to be with someone else. There not that much Harriet Tubman can do. To in fact , Without Harriet Tubman, we probably wouldn't be in the position we are in right now. Harriet Tubman made the underground rail road, and was famous from freeing slaves. She has always had a dream to do that too when she was fifteen. She really took place in the civil war and changed history.

Harriet Tubman is an American abolitionist, Humanitarian, and an Armed scout and Spy for U.S during American Civil War. She is a very important person in American History for many reasons. Some reasons are she escaped from slavery, she helped other slaves escape, led slaves safely to Canada, and she conducted the Underground Railroad. She took slaves and led them to many states until they safely got to Canada. She did all these things to help slaves escape, help U.S during Civil War, and to become a leading Abolitionist. What makes Harriet Tubman a hero in the past, present, and future is by how she helped out many slaves. Harriet was also known as Moses, because of the help she gave. The word hero means someone who is willing to risk things, is courageous, and has outstanding achievements. Harriet Tubman didn’t know majority of who she helped, yet she wanted to end slavery and she found it easier to help them out then and there. Harriet also represents herself as a hero by how she influenced others, to make a change in order to end slavery. As it’s shown, Harriet wasn’t afraid to help those who needed it, and she was well-known for her exceptional work/skills.

She led them to freedom by guiding them to safe houses along the way until they made it up north, she used songs, calls, and other things as a source of communication so that they wouldn't be caught. She rescued her family and many others as well. she also helped the freed slaves find jobs and homes for themselves. Harriet Tubman had to escape slavery. Many of her siblings were sold away and she could have been, but she was injured. During the year 1820 in the county of Dorchester, Maryland, a hero was born. Her name was Araminta Ross, though later would be known by a different name: Harriet Tubman. Tubman was one of the most well known figures throughout history. She possessed characteristics of bravery, courage, intelligence, determination, and selfishness during her fight through slavery. This abolitionist was known for her job as the official conductor for the Underground Railroad, and her services for the Union army during the Civil War (HISTORY online). All her contributions lead to self-liberations and belief that everyone deserves equal opportunity regardless to race or sex.

Harriet Tubman was very important in the movement against slavery, and definitely Her courageousness, generosity, intellegence, and leadership skills, which surpass all others, lead her to being the most important person in America in the 1850's. Her actions against slavery were the momentum that helped abolished slavery later in America's history. When she led a group of 11 people to Canada, she executed all of those traits. Her motivations. She lived to honor her mother, and that is why she changed her name from "minty" to Harriet.

Harriet Tubman was brave, she showed this by saving countless lives and risking her own. During a ten-year span she made 19 trips to the south to take over 300 slaves to freedom. Harriet proudly says that “she never lost a single passenger.” Harriet was fearless, she would take slaves to freedom during the night, pitch black with only a lantern to light the way. Running to freedom during the night she was able to avoid slave catchers. Slave catchers were brutal. They used dogs, whips, and guns to hunt down slaves for money. And for Harriet to have enough courage to confront these slaves if caught… it took a lot of bravery.

Harriet Tubman is a woman of faith and dignity who saved many African American men and women through courage and love for God. One would ponder what would drive someone to bring upon pain and suffering to one’s self just to help others. Harriet Tubman was a poor slave girl who ran away from her plantation at the age of 28. Throughout the course of her life many people and many things challenged her. Each situation she was faced with tested either her mental or physical strength, usually both. She persevered through all of her trials stronger and wiser, and was willing to always help others through their own. Not one to instigate unless extremely necessary, Harriet was known for her quick thinking and her reactions to each ordeal she was faced with. She responded to them with a sharp mind, and strong faith in deliverance through the Lord.

To start off, Harriet Tubman was extremely selfless. She risked her life to save her family. She rescued her parents and brought them to the north where they would be safer. Not only did she save her parents from the harsh reality of slavery, but Tubman risked being placed back into slavery in order to free innocent strangers. She did this not only once, but nineteen times, each becoming more dangerous to do. Her last trip to free slaves being during a time where she was wanted. Yet, her selflessness doesn’t stop there. Not only did she save the lives of so many people, she also served as a nurse during the civil war. Tubman was able to help many of the injured Union soldiers. She did this not for herself, but for the cause of helping the Union win the Civil War.

Everyone wants to be respected. It’s in our nature, but in order to obtain respect, first of all one has to respect oneself. Second, one has to show respect to others in order to gain respect from them. If one doesn’t show respect to someone, that person may often feel blown off and lose respect for you. Respect in my eyes is like a math equation loyalty plus duty equals respect. respect is gained in conducting ones self in a way that others can stand
