It is recommended that future researchers should: 1) why it is less effective if satin is mixed with potassium carbonate and sodium borate; 2) making the fire retardant cloth washable so that people can use it many times without spoiling its effects; 3) find if the solution is also effective to the other types of clothing materials. RESEARCH pLAN Research Materials * * 1 4”x4” linen sample * water (HO) * 1 4”x4” cotton sample * matchsticks * 1 4”x4” silk sample * beakers * 1 4”x4” satin sample * Erlenmeyer flask * Basin * thermometer * Analytical balance * alcohol lamp * Potassium carbonate * tripod * Sodium borate * stirring rod Research Procedure Mix 20 g of potassium carbonate, 40 g sodium borate and 200 mL h2o (water) in a basin. Soak the 4”x4” cloth samples in the solution. Dry the cloth sample. Put the cotton sample under fire. Record the time the cloth lasted before it completely burn. Repeat the steps for the linen and satin samples. Prepare a 4”x4” sample for each kind of cloth. Each cloth sample must not be soaked in the solution. Put the each samples under fire. Record the time it lasted before it completely burn. Precautionary Measures 1. Make sure you wear your lab gown/coat, gloves, and mask when doing the experiment. 2. Don’t smell or taste
