The symbolic allegory Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, is based around the Russian Revolution and everyone’s hunger for power. In Animal Farm, the animals rebel against Mr. Jones and demand freedom from the hard, stressing life on the Manor Farm. One of the main antagonists, Napoleon is cruel, unfair, and corrupt. The farm would have operated perfectly if Napoleon was not the leader. First of all, Napoleon is particularly cruel towards his “comrades.” For example, “Immediately the dogs bounded forward, seized four of the pigs by the ear and dragged then, squealing with pain and terror, to Napoleon’s feet… Napoleon appeared to change countenance and sharply ordered Boxer to let the dogs go,..” (26). For instance, “It is YOUR sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples” (12). This persuades that the animals are being supportive to the pigs by providing them the milk and apples when really the pigs are being hogs, just like Mr. Jones. To emphasize, the animals won’t have access to all the apples and milk and won’t be as well as the pigs. In conclusion, Napoleon and the pigs are being unfair towards the other animals, as they aren’t taking care of the other animals like they do with themselves. Lastly, he slowly becomes corrupt. “It did not seem strange when Napoleon was seen strolling in the farmhouse garden with a pipe in his mouth-... Napoleon himself appearing in a black coat, ratcatcher breeches, and leather leggings…” (42). Tis shows that Napoleon has completely transformed into Mr. Jones, showing that he operates the farm and that is the superintendent. In addition, animals weren’t permitted to perform human activities. To conclude, Napoleon had broken all the Seven Commandments and becomes corrupt. In the end, Napoleon had maneuvered the farm into going back to its original pace, when Mr. Jones operated the farm with his demeanor.If Snowball had ran the farm, many conflicts that the farm had with Napoleon would be solved easily.
