Community Assessment
The community that I live in is an urban environment. I live in Rochester, New York, which is considered to be economically poor. My community has a lot of activities for people to be involved in; some activities are the neighborhood watch team, volunteer opportunities at local schools, recreation center and much more. However my community is struggle with funding. An idea or strategy to address the funding situation is to have a fundraiser to raise money and bring awareness to the situation. Having a fundraiser would encourage residents to spend their money within the community. Spending money within the community is one way that residents can give back to the community. A short-term outcome from spending money in the

Most residents rent their homes, because people are always coming and leaving Rochester. Most people only stay in Rochester to save up money so thy can move to a better community like Greece, Pittsford or Henrietta. Faith based organization are very active n the community. They are always having a food drive, clothes give away and church services in the street. Churches are always looking to recruit resident into their religion. Churches hope that if thy can get a person to believe in their religion that people will turn away from their sins and do better in life. Business and property owners do not spend a lot of their time in Rochester or even keeping up their property in Rochester. Business and property owners spend most of their time and money in other community’s. Most business and property owners own property in Rochester and multiple other community’s. I have never came across any business person or propty management who only has a business I the community. The reason that they have several business is because a person could not live off of the money that they would bring in if they only had business in my community. There are not a lot of resources so resident spend their money in other community’s that have the resources that they need. Most resident are on social services such as section 8 and other welfare services. We do not have an headquarters for social services in my community it is in Pittsford, which is thirty eight miles away from my community. Most residents do not drive, so in order to get to the headquarters residents would have to get on fours buses just to get to the office. Larger institutions and community organization profit in the community. McDonald and Burger king always have business in their stores. Community organizations are not after money, but they are after volunteers. Most people that volunteer do not live in the community, they live in better community’s in the city. Community
Underneath countless coffee shops and Whole Foods Markets lies a class struggle between the working class and the affluent new arrivals. In trying to restore low income neighborhoods to suit their middle class needs, gentrifiers end up causing more problems for the poor than they had to start with. For one, the arrival of wealthier residents grabs the attention of businesses, causing the area to grow economically. This economic growth, however, leads to a spike in rent costs and property tax. According to Mark Masson, 47.5% of the rental costs in Erie County are above the affordability threshold as of 2012, a drastic increase from 2000. Conversely, Buffalo has also experienced a rise of homeless and impoverished families. The increase in rent puts a large financial burden on working class families. Unable to pay the rent because of low wages, many working class families are forced to leave their neighborhoods in search of affordable housing. Unfortunately, the neighborhoods they end up moving to face the same problems as their former, pre-gentrified neighborhoods: crime, poverty, and
This report will be on the research I have discovered first hand as well as through statistical data that compares and contrasts the neighborhoods of Greenbush and Burke Heights, both located in Madison, Wisconsin. When researching these two neighborhoods, I focused on the neighborhoods housing statistics, demographics of their residents, and the money circulating within the neighborhoods. Another aspect I paid attention to while comparing the neighborhoods was the economic and employment opportunities available within the communities. These benefits directly correlate to the amount of capital that is available for residents. Lastly, I took note of the entertainment, retail, and physical possibilities that prevailed in these neighborhoods.
Crawford County, Kansas is very familiar to me; it is where I was born and raised and now, as an adult, it is where I work as a nurse. Barriers to healthcare exists in every community. There is a high amount of poverty in Crawford County that contributes to barriers to access to healthcare. Furthermore, Crawford County has several stakeholders that influence the health of the community and advanced practice registered nurse (ARNP) practice. In this assessment of my community, I will identify Crawford County, as well as prevalent health care barriers and important stakeholders in my community.

There are many changes that I have observed in my neighborhood since living here for 21 years. There has been a recent migration of homeowners moving out of the neighborhoods. The home owners are either renting out their homes, to a new influx of section 8 tenants or they have chosen to walk away from their homes leaving many in the area to go into foreclosure. Foreclosure and crime are two of the biggest element of change that I have noticed in my neighborhood, and many of these problems arise from the economy, health and illness, and familial structure breakdown.
Throughout this paper we’ll be assessing and dissecting the community of Paterson, New Jersey, located in Passaic County. Formerly referred to as an industrial powerhouse that opened many doors of opportunity to the community surrounding it. It added wealth, independence, and economic security to the surrounding areas. The Great Falls and the potential power they generated was the primary cause for this. Alexander Hamilton wanted to construct an industrial city around the Great Falls. He believed manufacturers will increase the power and division of labor throughout the community. These falls were the significant factor
Collaboration among organization members and community stakeholders is very important, we must begin to study and understand nonprofits not merely as organizations housed within four walls but as catalysts that work within, and change, entire systems. The most effective of these groups employ a strategy of leverage, using government, business, the public, and other nonprofits as forces for good, helping them deliver even greater social change than they could possibly achieve alone (Crutchfield, 2012). There is also an understanding that community partnerships and assistance from caring individuals will be of a great benefit to the organization and the young men they serve. The different chapters in the organization are funded through member dues, grants and contributions from corporations, foundations, individuals and combined federal
Bill A.3080 states that prisoners who are part of the “special population” are not allowed to be placed in segregated confinement for any length of time, this includes twenty-one years or age or younger; (b) fifty-five years of age or older; (c) with a disability as defined in subdivision twenty-one of section two hundred ninety-two of the executive law, including but not limited to, for purposes of mental impairment, persons with a serious mental illness as defined in paragraph (e) of subdivision six of section one hundred thirty-seven of this chapter; (d) who is pregnant, is in the first eight weeks of the post-partum recovery period after giving birth, or is caring for a child in a correctional institution
Rochester, New York has a lot of history. Rochester is known for poverty, especially when the great depression arrived. Most people think of New York City when you talk about New York. However there is a whole lot more to New York than just the city. Rochester, New York is located in upstate New York. When immigrants and refugees come to the country they dispersed across the country and many of them land in Rochester, New York. The poverty population has always been high. Rochester is known for the population of refugees and being poor. Each year more and more refugees come to Rochester because of all the local organization to assist them. Which brings poverty to the area, because this is normally the first place that refugees and immigrant
A major influence on health in a community is the availability of services and opportunities within the neighborhood. Public health can be further influenced by the social environments. Accessibility to health care along with education and employment opportunities are fundamental factors to be considered (Riegelman & Kirkwood, 2015). These elements create both advantages and disadvantages for those living within the neighborhood. If we want to improve public health outcomes, we must consider and evaluate these along with many other contributing factors.
The organization I choose is Dignity Health Mercy Medical Center Redding (MMCR), located in Northern California. MMCR 2014 Community Health Needs Assessment Report is easy to read and understand. They provided the picture of the community they are serving and what are the problems that need priority. The hospital catered on communities in Shasta, Tehama and Trinity County. What I noticed is that the community they are serving is mostly Caucasian (79.6%), only 11% Hispanic. Out of the 209, 900 population, 17.3% were uninsured, 21.7% on Medi-cal with 10.9% unemployment rate. Most of the people seeking medical help go to the Emergency Department for non-acute medical services. MMCR priority is to have a community-based collaboration with other non-profit organization will address the existing problem the community is facing and to provide a long-term plan that will benefit the community in the future.
According to Newman and Wyly, Rapid gentrification has put incredible burden on low-income residents. Tenants, advocates, and community leaders have stated that displacement put much strain for the low-income, working class, elderly and immigrant communities of New York city. Community leaders report that residents often double- or triple-up with family and friends, become homeless or move into the city shelter system, or move out of the city.

Allow me to introduce you too two people; their names are Nani and Kai. Nani attends a private school, has loads of peer support, and is a straight-A student. She lives with both of her parents and her three siblings, she’s the oldest. She’s diligent, organized, responsible, humble, passionate, creative but above all; very loveable-not in the romantic sense, but in a friend type of way. Then there is Kai. Kai attends an underfunded High School where teachers would prefer to be at home watching Netflix than at their job, she lives with a single mother of four kids; and she is the second oldest of nine siblings. She is constantly surrounded by negative peer influences, she suffers from major depression, ADD, and has
