Children’s Book RD Spread 1: Page 1 I always thought my life was too boring. I woke up, ate breakfast, went to school, fell asleep during math class, came home, did homework, and then watched TV. That was how my typical day went. There was no traveling the world, no rescuing people like superheroes did, no enchanting people to become toads. Boring. Spread 2: Page 2 Today was no different. I was lying on bed, staring at the fan on the ceiling, wondering why I my life wasn’t as cool as Superman or Batman. Why couldn’t be a billionaire during the day and a superhero during the night? Page 3 I need a mask and a cape, I decided. So I climbed the stairs, into the attic. It was dark and dusty. I couldn’t see anything. I turned on the light. …show more content…
I walked around a bit. AA-CHOO! My sneeze made all the dust in the room fly up. Suddenly, I realized that there was someone else in the attic, watching me. Spread 3: Page 4 I turned around slowly, and nearly jumped when I saw a white face staring back at me. It took me a second to realize that I was looking at a mirror. The mirror was quite large. It was at least two feet taller than me. Unlike everything else in this place, it was sparkling clean. Everything I knew told me I should leave right now. This was the part in a horror movie where the reflection jumps out the mirror and strangles you. But I didn’t turn away. Instead, I stepped closer. This was the type of adventure I was craving. I touched the cool frame and slowly slid my hand towards the glass. To my surprise, my hand slipped through. Page 5 My eyes widened. I was faced with a choice. On one hand, I could go through, face the unknown, and might never be able to come back, or I could stay here and continue living my boring life. There was no choice. I stepped inside. I walked along the edge of the cliff, hoping to see any other sign of life. Suddenly, I stopped. There was no more ice in front of me. The path had suddenly dropped down tens of feet below me. Spread 5: Page 8 Honk! Honk! A strange sound drifted by my ears. It sounded like a donkey’s bray and a goose’s honk mixed together into one sound. I peeked below. From the distance, I could see small moving black figures. Penguins! Page 9 I found a spot where the hill wasn’t as steep, and slid down. The penguins looked much larger up close. They had black and orange beaks, and small beady eyes. Their chest was as white as the snow surrounding them. There were thousands of them. Some of them were diving into the freezing water and the others were just waddling around. I was enchanted. I started walking between them. One baby chick shuffled over to me. I reached down to pet him. He seemed to like it. His mom didn’t. Spread 6: Page 10 Angry, black eyes stared into my face. I quickly jerked away. The chick’s mother seemed furious. She started moving towards me. I slowly backed away. Her sharp beak didn’t look very nice from here. So, I ran. I ran back uphill and collapsed onto a soft mound of snow. When I finally got up, I had no idea where I was. I was

I believe that at the end of chapter 1 in the book we are meant to feel that Cole is a very mean person. Also that he thinks he is better than everyone and he is superior, the evidence to show this is on page 4 when it states “Still standing on the dock in front of everyone, Cole smirked as he undressed.” This piece of evidence shows that cole thinks he is better than the people because he is smirking as he undresses in front of them. Another piece of evidence to show that cole thinks he is better than everyone is on page 5 and it says “Nothing could be farther from the truth. To cole this was another big game.” This clearly is showing that cole thinks he is better than everyone he takes everything as a game he doesn’t really realize what is
A lithe form slinked through the pristine snow, her paws going numb from the constant unbridling unsuccessful search of prey. Being an experienced hunter now, PigeonEye knew that this was no small dilemma, but an ominous sign. She and a hunting party of three warriors had been sent out to hunt hours ago, and yet still, the terrain seemed barren, devoid of a stable amount of prey to feed their clan. The she-cat shivered and paused for a moment to survey they area, her fellow clan-mates halted and watched her with weary appearances, each thin and poignant. PigeonEye ignored them, an unshattered defiance and determination to serve her clan burning within her. If they did not bring back food when they returned, why return anyway. She was willing to die for her clan, even if she would die for a cause that might be remembered as pitiful foolhardy stubbornness.
Audubon speaks about the phenomenon in seemingly awestruck way, noting their power and magnitude while noting the birds’ formation as a natural wonder. A striking characteristic of his description is his
I had seen bald eagles before, but never in captivity or in their immediate vicinity. I had never heard one before. It was unnerving. Like a laugh, the eagle’s screech had
When we reached the harbor, we walked down the long wooden bridge. The water below was was brackish, so we could only see halfway down to the bottom. That was when I saw a large slow moving grey piece of lumpy rubber. I called my family to come see the mass of rubber. When they had all come, something amazing happened. A small whiskery snout and
“The first thing Violand saw was a gun, then the gunman, ‘I quickly dove under a desk, ’he recalled, ‘that was the desk I chose to die under.’ “(Maraniss). While the U.S. constitution says Americans have the right to bear arms, firearms continue to threaten our schools, work and religious areas. Regardless of the danger that guns possess some states have passed a bill to allow campus carry, which grants professors and college students the choice to carry a firearm on college or university campuses. Although, we have seen the amount of influence that firearms have caused in the past a good amount of public still supports the claim that guns are a reasonable source of protection. However, while many in favor of campus carry view it as a safety precaution, campus carry should not be allowed because there is no evidence that proves campus carry will keep students safer and carrying a concealed weapon can distract from the learning environment.
I click the flashlight on and shine it around. “Nothing..” I say to myself. I click the flashlight off. Immediately I get a strange urge to turn it back on and look to the right side of the
"Tap tap tap tap". "Woah what was that"? "Its probably just the rain or wind". I went to my kitchen to get a snack when again I hear "tap tap". "Ok somethings up". As I peaked outside my slide door, I saw a huge
Steamy air soaked Fianna’s clothes as she and Tan-tak-kle-ah tussled their way closer to the brink. A mere foot from the collapsing lip, Fianna sunk her knee into the Owl Woman’s groin, freeing herself and crawling away. With her nose and mouth filled with dust, she struggled to her feet, coughing and wheezing. Disoriented by the light, but astonishingly agile, the Owl Woman also stood, her back to Fianna. She lifted her feathered arms as if she were going to take flight and emitted a shrill wail that reverberated throughout the
The poor squirrel ran away after it dodged the first assault. The blackbird took flight to give chase. The black bird dove in like a bullet from a rifle. It was too fast to dodge as the poor squirrel saw its life flash over him. The black bird snatched the squirrel ad started to squeeze its life from it. The squirrel showed resistance but was clearly outmatched as it drew its final breath. The black bird took the lifeless body away to its nest to feast on its prey. As it flew through the dark and cold sky, suddenly a creature tackled the black bird making it drop the prey midair as it soon fell into the cold white field of snow. The unknown creature dove through the air making its way to the prey. Not wanting to lose its prey the black bird

One fall day in October, I decided to clean the attic. The attic was starting to get full so I thought it was time to clean it out. As I was cleaning it out I found some dead rats and mice. There were a lot of boxes but one of them stood out. In the old box was a mask.
The heavy clear doors slammed open one by one; big bright lights pierced my eyes from above with little images of ceiling tiles surrounding me. I could barely focus on the objects let alone recognize them. People in navy blue uniforms huddled around me appearing to be in a hurry based on their bright red faces and the drops of sweat that were slowly dripping down their flushed skin. The drips of perspiration slowly puddled on my cold, dry skin. When all of a sudden the commotion around me came to an abrupt halt. Without warning, I blinked and found myself once again starring at the ceiling. Except this time my vantage point was much clearer and I saw my battered reflection of my broken and beaten down body. In the distance I could faintly
