Hofstede’s Dimension of Culture Hofstede’s dimension of culture offers a gauge to measure the similarities and differences that are dominate among people of different cultures. Therefore, the three countries selected for this analysis are China, India and the United Kingdom (UK), as Hofstede’s dimensions of culture, examines individualism, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, power distance and long-term orientation, associated with the management culture in these nations. First, Power Distance (PDI) speaks to the inequality between members of an organization. Therefore, high power distance equates with an autocratic, dictatorial leadership style compared to low PDI members sharing equal powers. Second, Individualism (IDV) demonstrates self interest in the workplace, as compared to commitment to a group. This concept is demonstrated in the workplace as individuals have less loyalty to their employers and interpersonal relationships, as opposed to a low individualistic culture that are team-oriented. Third, Masculinity (MAS) is represented in cultures that are centered around strength, ego, achievement, power and control as compared to a feminine culture that focuses on caring, nurturing and the quality of life.
