Miep was always trying to give great news and hopefulness to the franks to get there spirits up, that represents optimism.

In The Diary of Anne Frank the authors use imagery to show how much danger the families were in. As the families were living in hiding above the warehouse, a robber comes in to steal money and hears sounds in the loft. From this we believe that the robber might have told the Nazis that there was someone in the loft. Mr. Dussel believes “....we are in greater danger than ever” because he knows the robber will tell the Nazis that he heard something and the robber might get rewarded for finding Jews in hiding (Hackett/Goodrich 910). The imagery of how they felt about the possibility of getting caught created nervousness and tension in the reader, you could imagine the men arguing about if the robber will tell the Nazis or not.
