Manipulation, the act of manipulating, is a common occurrence in teenage HSE. Waters presents manipulation through double lives and using technology as a method gaining trust from others. As Cady becomes exposed the Regina’s true side, she begins to be manipulated by Janis in implementing revenge by manipulating the plastics “cutting off her resources…Regina would be nothing without her high-statues man candy, good physiques, and ignorant loyal followers” and turning them against one-another. Regina Geroge’s character also holds the power of manipulation through her attractiveness and social intelligence in understanding people’s fears and insecurities. This is evident when the rules that Reinga invented to control and manipulate the plastics
But she later meets the plastics, the most popular group in the school, the term “plastics” serves as a metaphor for the artificial and epitomized adolescence prevalent within social circles, particularly high school settings. The group consists of Regina George, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen
Regina’s “flawless” appearance established her power among other girls. Among high school girls, power is stereotypically established through looks. As shown in Mean Girls, girls will look up the person they feel has the ideal appearance. The random comments said about Regina indicate that she is idolized by many of the girls attending North Shore High School. Other girls know everything about her, because they want to be just like her. This entrenches Regina’s position at the school.
Manipulation can serve as a very impressive social tool in order to bend someone's will to fulfill your agenda and trick them into carrying out a specific action. To manipulate is to manage or influence skillfully, especially in an unfair manner. This is prevalent in the tragic play Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Macbeth, an ambitious general, is manipulated by both his wife and three witches to commit heinous crimes. The witches manipulate Macbeth by using his faith in the supernatural to force him to carry out certain actions. As well, they present him with deceiving prophecies to give him false confidence. Lady Macbeth manipulates Macbeth by questioning his manhood
The film that I chose to do was the movie Mean Girls. This movie is filled with many funny characters and an amusing plot, but even though this movie has earned the crown of being the official “chick flick” it has a lot of psychological concepts that people really do not realize. However, when you really think about it, the movie has a lot to relate with when it comes to teenagers going into a new school because every teen that enters high school goes though the emotional and social stages of development. In this paper we will be looking at parts of the movie that focus on Cady and her stages of development as she goes through high school and deals with the Plastics, and then the Plastics themselves as well as certain aspects and things that revolve around them throughout the movie.
Regina George’s friend group is comprised of Karen and Gretchen. Their friendship is difficult at times. They share secrets among each other, for example the burn book is a secret between the girls. When Cady is included into the friend group she is then entrusted with the group’s secrets. This group of “Plastics” are friends by choice and always ask for each other’s
The scene that best represents this idea is where the Plastics are at the Old Orchard Mall when they see that Jason and Taylor hanging out. This is when Regina steps up for her cliques and decides to hurt Taylor’s reputation for hanging out with Jason because Jason should only be with Plastics. So, she could keep the status and power of Plastics. Following that event, the Plastics and Cady go over at Regina’s house where Cady meets Regina’s abnormal mother. They go to Regina’s room and this is when the Plastics judge their bodies while looking at themselves in the mirror and Cady seems to be shocked by the number of flaws they point out in their selves. At this point, the camera shows the social distance between Cady and the Plastics separating Cady from the Plastics as Cady finds it hard to believe that perfect girls like the Plastics can find flaws in them.
The power of manipulation can easily be misused to aid the person who uses it. Overusing it can harm the people who are targets to its belongings. If it is left in the hands of the villain, a large group of people can be restrained by a solitary person. Manipulation in this play is used very dangerously and ones actions can lead to another. Some characters take their actions too far to the point where they begin manipulating themselves during the process. Observant and manipulative describes the kind of woman Medea had depicted. Medea set her mind on getting revenge on a man whom she gave up everything to be with. She fled her own country and killed her brother just to be with a man she fell in love with. Only to find out that the one she had loved betrayed her, used her for greed, and left her to be with a princess. The main reason for her manipulation was only to justify her revenge on her husband, Jason. However, people stand in the way of her revenge plan, and the only way she can do what she needs to do is by manipulating others to be on her side. She does this in a way where she connects with others on a more personal level so they can feel just as bad as her. In “Vicarious Dishonesty:
As Janis is telling Cady about the different cliques at their school, she ponders "How do I begin to explain Regina George?" This is followed by comments and opinions by different students ': "Regina George is flawless" "She has two Fendi purses and a silver Lexus". The fact that the second comment made about her describes the products that she owns says a lot about our consumer culture and recognition of brands, and the way we look up to people. Mean Girls emphasises that Regina is "fabulous, but she 's evil" - despite her attractiveness and the respect she is given, her behaviour and personality leave much to be desired. Even though she is downright nasty and universally hated, people still want to be like
Norbury asks the entire senior class to raise their hand if they have ever been victimized by Regina George and nearly every single hand was raised. She does whatever she wants and thinks that everyone admires her. This is mostly because of the way her mom acts towards her and her friends. Regina's mom tries to be one of the teenage girls and gossip along with the "plastics." She even allows her daughter to drink underage. Regina's mom also allows the younger daughter to watch nudity on the television. Her care free, laid back parenting style plays a huge roll on how Regina acts towards her peers. In addition, Cady's parents are very strict. The first sign of this is in the beginning when they are very concerned with sending her to a public high school. After being exposed to the "plastics" and how they act, Cady begins to drink and participate in illegal activity nearly every weekend. Cady finds her wrong doings as an escape from her parents. This is because her parents are too strict and are constantly nagging her. Their uptight, strict parenting style is what leads to Cady doing unacceptable activities.
This offense, along with the new level of morally acceptable behavior Cady formed once fully ingrained within The Plastics, finds revenge against Regina as reasonable. According to social identity theory, an individuals' behaviors are organized in terms of the social categories with which they identify, so that they are motivated to establish and maintain a positive self-image by viewing these categories as positive and distinct from alternative categories (Seta, Seta, & Hundt, 2001, p.19). As a Plastic, positive self-image is the ultimate goal, so an act of revenge as the result of an offense is considered rational and even expected within that social setting. Once Cady identifies herself as a Plastic, the idea of revenge no longer holds the stigma it once did when Cady could not follow through with Janice’s plan for revenge. Cady then follows through with an act of revenge, something she had previously found to be morally reprehensible in her previous social
The movie Mean Girls is about this new girl Cady Heron who becomes friends with The Plastics. Cady befriends this group of clique as a way to spy on them with the help of her friends Damian and Janis. In the Plastics Regina George can be seen as the Alpha of the group, Gretchen Wieners can be seen as an insecure person and Karen Smith was portrayed as an airhead. In the movie Cady begins to have a crush on Regina’s-ex boyfriend, Aaron Samuels, Regina finding out about this Kisses Aaron Samuels and become his girlfriend again purposely hurting Cady. Throughout the movie Regina can be seen doing mean things or saying mean things to other. According to the DSM-5 Histrionic Personality Disorder is categorized as a pervasive pattern of excessive emotionally and attention seeking, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts.
Regina George is a sixteen-year-old Caucasian female. She is a junior at North Shore High School, and comes a very wealthy family. Regina is in great physical health and participates in sports at her school. She is known as the meanest girl at her school, which allows her to reign as the “queen bee” of her clique, the Plastics, and of her school. Regina suffers from Histrionic Personality Disorder, which is a Cluster B Personality Disorder, classified by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-Fifth Edition.
There’s has been people who either have been manipulated and then there’s people that have manipulated people. Being experienced with situation can make it easy for one to manipulate anyone. For example in “The Crucible” it demonstrates how one young child can manipulate everyone from children to an adult into believing her vengeance story. With the right situation experience one can manipulate with ease, but it shouldn’t be easy for one to manipulate half of the people in the town.
Multiple characters use the act of manipulation to save their reputation in a small town. Hathorne accuses Elizabeth of being a witch, because it seems as though she has a voodoo doll inside of her home. When Elizabeth claims that she hasn’t had poppets since she was a kid, Hathorne manipulates the situation by asking her, “But a poppet will keep fifteen years, will it not?” (Miller III. 839-840). Hathorn is trying to say that Elizabeth could have had the poppet since she was a kid. He is manipulating the trial so that she gets accused of being a witch, to save his own reputation. In addition to Hathorne, the next character who uses manipulation to save their reputation is Abigail. When the accusation is brought to the court that Abigail has had intercourse with the married John Proctor, Abigail screams at the court saying that she doesn’t deserve having these accusations about her. Abigail cries to the judge “I have been near to murdered everyday because I done my duty pointing out the devil’s people- and this is my reward?”(Miller III. 1018-1021). Abigail is manipulating the situation by taking the attention off of the actions she is accused of, and turning the attention to the good deeds
Nowadays, there are multiple users those are using Outlook for their Business purpose for accessing the emails. It stores various data items such as emails, contacts, calendars, tasks etc. in its exclusive file format i.e., PST files. However, sometimes users feel that several PST files from different account should be merged. This is because it becomes rather complicated to handle many Outlook PST files at a time and users unable to extract information from them. The main purpose of all the users is to combine multiple PST files by keeping the data items in the mailbox safe.
