TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD Racial Discrimination is the unfair treatment of the people on the basis of race, colour etc. Racial Discrimination creates social differences in society in every field. People face exclusion, distinction, restrictions based on their colour, background ,origin, practices, religion, gender etc. Racial discrimination can be found in many fields such as housing, education, employment, nursing, political affairs etc. Racial discrimination is the key concept in the novel ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’. In this novel , the story revolves around a young girl and her elder brother Jem, experiences & witness lot of criticism, discrimination & a very messed up social hierarchy in maycomb. In this novel, Harper Lee dismantle social lies , prejudices & ignorance .Lee has explained her real life experiences of racism with reference to scout finch’s character. In this novel ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’, Lee has potrayed Maycomb as a city of racist. Tom Robinson , an innocent black man was accused of raping a white lady. Harper Lee has contributed others themes also in this novel: The Good and the Evil and Courage . Atticus, their father always told them about the difference between good and the evil. Atticus Finch show so much of courage to fight for and defend tom,just to go with the truth and he was brave enough to face the repurcursions of the society. Atticus defines Courage as “When you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and see to through no matter what”. He even encourages Scout to be courageous to all the criticism she faces about herself and her family. Other one is Mrs. Dubose who bravely fights against her morphine addiction although she knew she would die.
