Sammy has many opinions and attributes that many would disagree with. His first impressions towards certain people are rude and inappropriate, but he soon comes around and sees the error of his ways. The attitudes, actions, and observations of Sammy are very different from other people's of the same time. Sammy's attitude towards people are very strong and unprofessional. Sammy's attitude towards everyone in the story is very inappropriate. "A witch about fifty...," (Updike). This shows that Sammy cares nothing about the customers. He treats them wrongful. Not only that, but Sammy also calls the customers "slaves" and "sheep". Which shows that he thinks the customers have no control over themselves and are unimportant. He has a bad attitude towards the customers, but also for the girls. He calls the three girls "sacks of meat," this shows that he has no respect for women of the world. He is very rude to the customers. He calls them names that no one should be called. His actions may be bad at the beginning, but on through the story his actions begin to counteract his previous actions. After Lengel removes the girls from the store, he stands up for the girls and against Lengel. "You didn't have to embarrass them," (Updike). This shows that Sammy believes that Lengel was wrong and stands up for the girls. He also tried to find the girls to tell them what he did for them, but he never found them.
