Everyone has secrets, but there are times where their secrets must retire. There are many examples found in the play Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare. Romeo & Juliet is a love story between Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet staged in Verona, Italy. Due to a family feud, they fear if their relationship comes to light they would be separated. However, some secrets need to be revealed, or they can have serious consequences. In reality, there are times when secrets must be told.
Secrets must come to light when they can cause someone to get hurt or die. For example, after Juliet tries to poison herself after Romeo used his poison, she gives up and tries another option. Juliet proclaim, “[Juliet] snatches Romeo’s dagger. This is thy sheath;

She stabs herself and falls on Romeo’s body” (Shakespeare 5.3.174-176). Eventually, she stabs herself after her failed attempt at trying to poison herself by kissing Romeo. Moreover, if Juliet’s relationship with Romeo was not secret she would not be dead. Next, Romeo is looking for poison from the Apothecary, the Apothecary does not want to sell to Romeo, but he needs the money. Romeo asserts, “I pay thy poverty, and not thy will” (Shakespeare 5.1.79). Presently, Romeo tells the Apothecary that he is paying for the poison and not his will to sell it to him. Surely, if the Apothecary warned Romeo’s parents he would still be alive. Meanwhile, Juliet asks the Nurse what is the masked Romeo’s name for she would never find another if he is married. As soon as she learns of Romeo’s Montague blood, she states, “My only love, sprung from my only hate! Too
Once Juliet fakes her death, Romeo received the word, incorrectly, that she is dead. This causes him to make his own plans to kill himself. “Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee to-night. / Let's see for means.”
This caused Romeo to kill himself, which ultimately caused Juliet to do the same. In act five of the story, Romeo buys poison from an apothecary, as he said “I pay thy poverty and not thy will. Apothecary gives him the poison,” (5.2.80-81). He buys the poison because he heard that Juliet had died and he wanted to kill himself so he could lay with Juliet
As Shakespeare writes in Romeo and Juliet, “There is thy gold, worse poison to men’s souls”(5.2.84). This shows Romeo buying poison which he will use later to kill him self. When Romeo arrives to the fake grave of Juliet he takes the poison and kills himself. As Shakespeare writes in Romeo and Juliet, “Here’s to my love. O true apothecary, thy drugs are quick. Thou with a kiss I die”(5.3.119-120). After Romeo killing himself Juliet awakes from her sleep and see’s Romeo is dead and kills herself to. As Shakespeare writes in Romeo and Juliet, Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O, happy dragger, this is thy sheath, there rust, and let me die. This shows Juliet killing herself after seeing Romeo
William Shakespeare has left many signs of secrecy in Romeo and Juliet. It seems that he displays keeping secrets as having positive outcomes. When Romeo and Juliet noticed their true feelings for each other and confessed these feelings, they went to Friar Lawrence for help on the matter, as they saw that there could have been no way of them being together. This was due to them being from rival
The truth of their love is based on secrecy. Secrecy kills. It has the strength to rip families apart and end lives. To begin, the decisions that Romeo and Juliet make are often based on their love for one another. Juliet’s decision to go to the Friar to find a remedy that ensures her everlasting love with Romeo shows the length she will go to be with him. Once her request is made obvious, the Friar is unsure what to do. The child has given him two options: help her or she will help herself. Juliet’s words to Friar are as follows,
Did you know the average person lies in 1 in every 4 interactions they have? Whether their purpose is to deceive or make themselves look better by impressing the person they’re deceiving, lying is something that is very common nowadays. No matter what age, no matter what piece of literature you read, and what you see online, it is guaranteed that you will stumble across a lie almost every single day you live. More specifically, the media uses lies/deception to enhance the story and attract the attention of the leader to make them more interested in the story. In the play “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet,” there are many examples of deception by Juliet because it led to the death of Romeo, her misleading her parents, and her own death.
Though often times in the world one may get caught up in the secrets and rumours about them or those around them, it is these secrets and rumours that shape a human being’s character and relationships with those around them. In the Shakespearean tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, the effects that secrets have on characters’ relationships shape the play, yet more specifically, it is the literal secrets regarding relationships that shape such relationships, which, in turn, shapes the play. Different relationships as outlined thoroughly in the play are not only a result of the secrets themselves, but the location in which these certain secrets are initially portrayed.
Romeo and Juliet Lies are a strange thing, they can make or break any relationship whether it be with family or a partner. They seem to have a snowball effect where they just keep getting bigger and bigger until they finally unravel into a monstrous avalanche. Sometimes little white lies are necessary, but one must be careful as they can cause great pain to whomever gets caught in the web. In the end lies served Romeo and Juliet poorly even though, their death was imminent. Furthermore, Romeo and Juliet were only children not yet able to handle the tough decisions and lies they brought upon themselves.
The secrecy of Romeo and Juliet and the hostility of the families kindle the suicide of Romeo and
Trusting someone can often be a difficult task, even when it’s just a silly secret, like the boy you like, or that you stole from the candy jar on the counter when mom wasn’t looking. But have you ever had told someone a secret, that could potentially end your life if it was spread? Romeo and Juliet have a massive secret weighing them down. A Capulet and a Montague? Married?
There are times when secrets must be told because it causes deaths. Romeo, son of Montague, and Juliet, daughter of capulet get
William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is built on the premise of secrecy and deceit. In the Medieval times, secrecy was a prominent part of everyday life because their day-to-day tasks were often illegal and deceitful. Laws were often broken and government mattered not to any person, whether they be young or old, rich or poor. Romeo and Juliet is built on the theme of secrecy on which Shakespeare wrote the play with the main events splitting from lies and secrets.
To be with Romeo, she fakes her death by taking liquid the Friar gave her that keeps her alive, but makes her appear dead. The liquid makes her sleep for three days and when she wakes up, she finds Romeo’s body lying next to her. She discovers he is dead, and immediately tries to drink the poison Romeo drank, but finds the bottle empty. She finds a dagger that Romeo had with him, and states “this is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die”, with that, she stabs herself, and dies. When Juliet does this, it demonstrates how much she cared for him.
Romeo and Juliet both suicide after seeing each other dead. After Romeo hears about Juliet’s death, he goes to her tomb to see her one last time and kiss her before he suicides. “Here’s to my love. O true apothecary,/Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die”(V.iii.119-120). Romeo should have overlooked his quick thoughts of suicide, and should have realized how much he still had to live for. The aftermath of this action was that both Romeo and Juliet both end up dead in the final tragedy. After Juliet sees Romeo dead, she decides to kill herself with a dagger. “Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O, happy dagger,/This is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die”(V.iii.174-175). This evidence is an example of the consequences that can occur after a hasty, sad-driven decision. If Romeo did not suicide while under the influence of his emotions, both Romeo and Juliet would have lived, and the ultimate, final tragedy of the play would have been avoided, but instead, Romeo’s emotions misguided him to choose the awful decision of suicide. These actions reveal how quickly sadness leads to horrendous repercussions due to the actions that it
Secrecy exists in the play and life by the examples of Romeo and Juliet lying about their marriage and Juliet faking her death and being able to handle the pressure of keeping a secret, and to have faith that friends
