Fahrenheit 451 Trends Present in Society Today Throughout the novel, Fahrenheit 451, the author, Ray Bradbury, displays an abundance of trends which he believes will reflect accurately on society today. From the beginning to the end of this novel, there seems to be a lot of negative trends discussed about society. Although these vary, all of them are predictions for the future and how these types of concerns will be a big problem. Many of the trends are present today but there are a few which aren’t seen in current society. However, most of these are accurate and these include, the use and abuse of technology, the destruction of knowledge, and suicides. The use and abuse of technology is one of the biggest concerns that Bradbury shares in his novel. This type of abuse is controlling the people mentally as much as physically. In Fahrenheit 451, the destruction of knowledge was simply the absolute ban of books which contain knowledge. This ban was made because, in this society, they don’t want you to think or become smart. They want everyone to be the same, know the same things, and act the same way. Everything was made quicker, faster, and simpler. As society went on, “Everything boils down to the gag, the snap ending.” (Bradbury 54). This speeding up and laziness is taking place in current society today. People want things to be shorter and quicker so that they will get the information that they need in a shorter amount of time. But they don’t realize that in the process, knowledge is being lost and destroyed just because we want things faster.
