The Witches, Lady Macbeth, and Macbeth can be seen as responsible for the tragedy of Macbeth because they worked together to plot and go through with a plan to kill King Duncan, the king of Scotland, in turn causing a series of tragic events. Firstly, The Witches are responsible for giving Macbeth the idea that he is invincible, further enticing him to seek power in twisted ways. In (IV.I.74-84) the witches tell Macbeth “None of the woman born shall harm Macbeth!”. Hearing this, Macbeth’s ambition takes over and he starts to go mad over the idea of power and becoming king. Since Macbeth was so called “invincible”, no one could stop him from becoming king. …show more content…

Furthermore, Lady Macbeth is responsible for manipulating Macbeth and feeding into his ideas for power. When Lady Macbeth fed the idea of murdering the king, Macbeth was very hesitant about it, and he was second guessing his wife about this crazy idea, but a prime example of this manipulation is demonstrated when Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth “When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would Be so much more the man” (I.VII. 49-51). See the After hearing these unkind words Macbeth feels as if he needs to prove his wife wrong showing her that he is a man, so he listens to her manipulative words and goes through with the murder in turn making Lady Macbeth a part of the murder. This event also leads to the tragedy of both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Macbeth is the primary culprit for the tragic events that occurred in the play “Macbeth” as he was the person who physically murdered King Duncan and started the chain of tragic events.
