If you have read or watched a play, you at least know one of the most iconic and popular stories of all time. This play is about two lovers from two separate feuding families who meet their end together. The play I’m referring to is “Romeo and Juliet”, written by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet’s deaths conclude this tragic story but the question being asked is “Who’s to Blame?” There are many characters to blame but from my point of view, Friar Lawrence and Juliet herself are partially responsible for her and Romeo’s deaths, however, the family feud (Montague and Capulet) itself is entirely at fault for their children’s demise. Out of all the characters in Romeo and Juliet, I blame Friar Lawrence for Romeo and Juliet’s death. According …show more content…
The Friar plans a way for Juliet to be with Romeo which starts with the potion given to Juliet to fake her death, unfortunately, the letter from the Friar ends up not making it on time. Romeo finds out about her “death” and rushes to her tomb and ends his life leading up to Juliet’s death. Although the Friar tried his best to help the two livers, Fate ended up finding its way to mess it up. One other character it would blame for Romeo and Juliet is Juliet herself. In the passage (2.2, 142-148) Juliet wants to marry Romeo, and (3.5, 112-117) Juliet refuses to marry Paris. The first citation proves Juliet is to blame because after she meets Romeo she wants to marry him as quickly as possible and later gets him into some trouble. My theory is that if she planned it, she and Romeo wouldn’t be dead. Act 3, scene 5 also proves my point, Juliet refuses to marry Paris which makes Lord Capulet angry, and Juliet resolves this by going to the Friar for a plan that is unfortunately poorly …show more content…
Juliet undoubtedly had a good chance of making it alive with Romeo, but made the wrong decisions, ending her life. The two people mentioned above are somewhat to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths, the family feud is mostly to blame for the tragic fate of the two lovers. Act 1 Prologue says, “From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.” Montague and Capulet families have been fighting for many years over a grudge, which made the families not like each other, a reason that happened in the past. If these two families weren’t fighting over a grudge, it would’ve made Romeo and Juliet freely express their love for each other in front of the family without getting angry. Montague and Capulet's feud caused the tragic events to unfold because of their ancestor’s grudge that took place in a distant past. A feud from the past is a pretty foolish reason to continue in the present, even dumber how the feud ended with two young lovers. Although Juliet and the Friar are somewhat at fault, the Family Feud is mostly to blame for Juliet’s and Romeo’s
In the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare two teenagers met, fell in love, and eventually committed suicide from the pressure around them. Juliet's family, the Capulet's and Romeos family, the Montague's have a strong rivalry between each other. In my opinion, the Capulet's are to blame for Juliet's and Romeos death. The Capulet's are at fault because they played a major role in the ongoing rivalry with the Montague's, they were pressuring Juliet into marrying Count Paris, and had Romeo banished from Verona.
Some people like to blame Friar Lawrence for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence drastically affects Romeo and Juliet decisions because he is the one who secretly got the two married in the first place. He did this because he hoped getting the two married would resolve the feud between the two rival families. Friar Lawrence also helps Juliet not have to marry Paris. He does this by giving her a sleeping potion that will make her look like she is dead.
Secondly, Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths or Romeo and Juliet because he gave Juliet the sleeping potion. Juliet needed help to stop an arranged marriage to a man named Paris. She went to Friar Lawrence threatening to kill herself if he couldn’t help her out of the marriage.
Who is at fault? In the tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” the author William Shakespeare kills off most of the main characters in a series of events. The question is: who started this devastating ending? Lord Capulet and Lord Montague are the characters most to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet because they started this feud, they taught their children to hate the other family, and their children felt like they needed to keep secrets from them.
Friar Lawrence is to blame because he is the one who married Romeo and Juliet, He gave Juliet a potion, and he made the plan for Juliet to take the potion and fake her own death. In Act 4, Scene 1, Line 93, Friar Lawrence says to Juliet, “Take thou vial being then in bed.” In the above quote from the play, Friar Lawrence is giving juliet a
Others may say Friar Lawrence is to blame because he was mischievous and selfish because he supported the secret marriage by saying, “There’s one reason I’ll assist you, this marriage could have the happy result of turning your families hatred into pure love” (Shakespeare 2.3.95). Friar Lawrence has been helping sneak Romeo and Juliet around the whole play. When Romeo came to him, he decided he would secretly marry the two and their mischievous actions never ended. Throughout the play, he makes multiple decisions to help them keep their secret of being together. Although Friar Lawrence's manipulative actions played a small role in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, he is not most to blame for the deaths because he is not the one who put this tragedy into action.
A reason people may think this is because Friar Lawrence was unable to send the letter to Romeo in Mantua about how Juliet wasn’t actually dead. Well actually, if the Montagues and Capulets were at peace to start the story, Juliet would’ve never had to fake her death to be with Romeo. Therefore, Friar Lawrence is not to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because Friar Lawrence would’ve never been in that position if it were not for the hatred between the Montague family and the Capulet family. The hatred between the two families is the real reason for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, not Friar
Near the end of the play, Friar comes up with an idea to get Romeo and Juliet back together. With Romeo being banished to Mantua, he writes him a letter to explain what will happen and where it will take place. He then gives this letter to Friar John, who is supposed to deliver the letter, but it is later found out that he was held in quarantine and was unable to deliver it. While this is taking place, Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a vile and tells her to drink it, saying that it will put her in a death-like state for 48 hours. Once she is found “dead” she will be laid in the family tomb. Once the 48 hours are up, she will awaken and Romeo was supposed to come and take her somewhere safe where they can be together. This plan backfired when Romeo didn’t receive the Friar’s letter and took matters into his own hands when Balthazar tells him Juliet is dead. Because Balthazar believes Juliet is truly dead, Romeo believes that this is the news that was supposed to come from the Friar. Romeo then paid for a bottle of poison that he will drink when he lies next to Juliet. If Friar’s plan would have succeeded, they would be together and they could work out a plan to keep them both safe and end the family feud. Because the plan backfired, both Romeo and Juliet end up dead at the end of the
Despite all of these actions which ultimately ended in chaos, I don't think that the Friar or the Nurse were to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. On some level their actions did partake in what eventuated in the tragedy, but they came with the best intentions, with high hopes that they would be able to save a young couple's love and end a bitter feud. Friar Laurence did bring the families together, but it was with death rather than marriage. O brother Montague, give me thy hand. (V, 3, 232)
Romeo and Juliet : Who's to Blame ? Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a story of tragedy. Romeo and Juliet fell in love knowing their families were enemies . Regardless they continued their plans which lead them to a tragedy .
The play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, ends with two star-crossed lovers, along with several others, dying. The question is, who is to blame for this tragic mess? There are multiple suspects who could have been the reason for the deaths of these young people. It could have been Romeo and Juliet themselves, Friar Laurence, the Capulets and the Montagues, Fate, or a number of people could share the blame. Each of the following has different motives.
If you have ever read the play, Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, you have most likely heard the question, “Who is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet?” The play Romeo and Juliet is about two star-crossed lovers who fall in love but are not supposed to because of their family feud. Unfortunately, Romeo and Juliet end up dying at the end of a tragic play. The top people who would be blamed for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet are Romeo and Juliet themselves, Friar Laurence, and Lord Capulet. Although, characters such as Tybalt, Mercutio, and Nurse Capulet had quite a bit to do with the deaths of Romeo and Juliet; the characters mentioned above have much more to do with the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
There are three things to blame for their deaths, the feud between the two families, Juliet’s parents, and Friar Laurence. The First thing is the feud between the two families. If the families ever found out that they were even talking to each other both of the families would go on a rampage. One reason I say the feud is the cause of Romeo and Juliet’s death is because the feud kept them from seeing each other.
In some tragic situations multiple people get blamed for the outcome. The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers who end up dying for each other and at the same time ending a feud with both of their families. Shakespeare reveal through his characters perfectly how multiple people are to blamed to certain circumstances. In my opinion Romeo and Juliet are the least to blame, the friar and nurse are more to blame, but the parents are the most to blame.
Romeo and Juliet first met each other at a party at the Capulets house. They fall in love with each other at the first sight without knowing that they are from families who hate each other, and when they do learn about it, it is too late. Juliet realizes that it was a mistake to fall in love with Romeo, because he is one of the people she should watch out for. He is her first and only love, but he is an enemy of her family. Lucky for Romeo, Juliet is smart, and such dumb thing as hate between their parents wouldn't stop her from loving Romeo and getting married with him. She is sorry that their families are enemies, though, because everything would be much easier if they weren't. So this is the first time when the hate between Capulets and Montagues becomes problem to Romeo and Juliets happiness. Only after their children die, the Montagues and Capulets come to their senses. The Prince accuses them of killing Romeo and Juliet. The Prince makes them see how wrong they were all the time, that all because of their hate, because they couldn't let their children love each other, Romeo and Juliet died. After that, Capulets and Montagues decide to call it quits. No more fighting, and Montague even says that he will make a gold statue of Juliet, but what is that going to do? It is too late, nothing will bring them back. It is totally Capulets' and Montagues' fault that Romeo and Juliet died. If they didn't hate each other so much,
