Executive Summary: Socialising is part of human life. Human beings are social animals and they want to get connected and interact with their friends and family members. Social networks, as the name suggests, are networks established and maintained for the purpose of socialising. Nowadays, people in far different places can interact thanks to the Internet and social networking sites. What are the benefits of social networking? What are the issues facing social networking? This report seeks to outline issues affecting social networking including sexual allowances, privacy, safety, wasting time, addiction and health with the purpose of providing two solutions towards these issues. Social networks can include classmates, workmates or people with a given social similarity such as fans of a given football club, fans of a given type of car and members of a given professionalism such as doctors. At the most basic, these social networks allow members to interact and communicate with each other on issues that bring them together. For example, doctors can share their experiences via their social network to improve their professionalism. The introduction of the internet was accompanied by a major revolution in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) including the introduction of social networking sites. A social networking site is defined as a website that allows a person to interact with other people that the person is connected to (Zhang, Zhu and Hildebrandt, 2009). Interaction on social networking sites occurs through making friendship with other people, sharing experiences with these friends, posting photos with friends, liking friend’s photos and posts and responding to what friends post on social networking sites. In other words, social networking sites are websites that allow people to socialise with other people including friends and strangers. Examples of social networking sites include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Wikis, Orkut, Flickr and LinkedIn among others.
